REDS SET TO BENEFIT FROM NEW TRAINING FACILITIES
ALFRETON Town took the first preparation steps towards the 2009/10 Blue Square North season when they returned to pre-season training on Tuesday evening.
And, after years of struggling to find a suitable base to operate from, it promises to be a year of major benefit as the Reds have finally managed to secure the use of top notch training facilities, just up the road at Sutton Lawn.
The first training session of the summer saw the squad train on a brand new,  state of the art third generation astroturf all-weather surface which is FA approved, and the same sort of surface which England played an international game on in Russia recently.
Manager Nicky Law commented: “We are delighted to be able to use these facilities. They will be a massive boost to us, especially during the winter months where we have really struggled over the past few years to find somewhere decent when the weather turns bad.”
With holidays for both Law and assistant Russ O’Neill now firmly in the memory, their early work in securing their targets looks to have paid off as what looks to be a very strong and competitive squad were put through their paces.
Law insists that his squad is not yet complete and aside from being on the verge of landing a second goalkeeper, also training on Tuesday were a handful of proven quality players who are hoping to get themselves fixed up with the Reds for the new campaign.
Season ticket deadline
The deadline for discounted season tickets has now passed but season tickets are still available priced from July 1 to August 7 at £161 for adults, £80 for concessions and £331 for a family ticket.
There is also a new ten match ticket which is priced at £90 for adults and £50 for concessions.
Tickets can be ordered by contacting Lisa Towerzey on 01159 392090 extension 107.
Fixtures
The Blue Square North league fixtures for the 2009/10 season are set to be released this Friday (July 3) morning and will be listed on the official site as soon as possible that day.

FORMER REDS JOIN RETFORD UNITED
Former Alfreton Town central defender Paul Ellender and goalkeeper James Lindley have both joined another ex-Red, Peter Duffield, manager of Retford United, who were promoted to the UniBond League Premier Division last season. Another former Town player, goalkeeper Ross Turner, has left Retford after failing to agree terms.

ALFRETON INSTALLED AS JOINT FAVOURITES FOR TITLE
ALFRETON Town have been installed as joint favourites to win the 2009/10 Blue Square North title.
The Reds are listed at the short odds of 6/1 alongside AFC Telford United and Fleetwood Town on the official betting website of Conference sponsors Blue Square.
It is easy to see why Alfreton have been listed amongst the favourites after finishing third last season behind champions Tamworth and second-placed Gateshead who were also promoted after winning the play-offs.
On top of which, manager Nicky Law has also made five very good looking signings so far, with more to come, and he certainly isn’t overawed by his team’s label of title favourites.
He said: “It is not something that bothers us. It just shows how far we have come as a team and club to be down as favourites to win it.”
After finishing fourth, AFC Telford United were beaten play-off finalists whilst Fleetwood finished eighth after a very good first season in the division. To underline their promotion ambitions, the seasiders have since paid a club record transfer fee of £17,000 to Barrow AFC for Steve McNulty.
Odds
The early Blue Square odds for the title are:
6/1 AFC Telford United, Alfreton Town and Fleetwood Town
7/1 Southport
11/1 Droylsden and Stalybridge Celtic
12/1 Gainsborough Trinity
14/1 Harrogate Town, Northwich Victoria and Eastwood Town
22/1 Corby Town and Ilkeston Town
25/1 Vauxhall Motors and Hinckley United
28/1 Gloucester City and Blyth Spartans
33/1 Workington and Farsley Celtic
50/1 Redditch United, Stafford Rangers, Hyde United and Solihull Moors.

SEASON TICKET DISCOUNT DEADLINE LOOMING
Supporters should note that the season ticket discount deadline of June 30 is fast approaching. Prices before the deadline are £145 for adults and £75 for concessions (senior citizens and under-16s). A family ticket for two adults and two children is £306.
After the deadline, prices rise from July 1st to August 7th to £161 for adults, £80 for concessions and £331 for a family ticket.
There is also a new ten match ticket which is priced at £80 for adults, £45 for concessions before the deadline and £90 for adults and £50 for concessions after it.
Tickets can be ordered by contacting Lisa Towerzey on 01159 392090 extension 107.
Chairman Wayne Bradley commented: “It is fair to say there is a good section of new applicants for season tickets this year. Sales are going well and the uptake is very good.”

CONFERENCE STATEMENT OVER SETANTA COLLAPSE SITUATION
"The Board and staff of the Football Conference are deeply saddened by the news that Setanta have gone into administration. Although the financial implications of this action will have an enormous impact on the competition, our clubs, partners and supporters, we must not forget the contribution made by them to us over the last 2 years. Setanta pioneered many new initiatives during their association, some of which are now copied by other broadcasters.
The Conference Board did everything in its power to support Setanta in its time of financial crisis and we wish the very best to all those we have met along the way, who have become friends. We sincerely hope those dedicated staff, who have become part of the Football Conference family over the last 2 seasons, will continue to operate and work at the highest level in sports broadcasting and that their future remains positive.
To all our member clubs may we thank you for supporting Setanta and be assured that your Board together with all staff will be working hard to find another broadcast partner to further build on the ground work laid down by them in supporting our competition, which is at the very heart of English football."

CONFERENCE AGM UPDATE
FOLLOWING the Conference AGM at Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday, Alfreton Town will face league games against Corby Town and Gloucester City for the first time ever following the announcement of the composition of the 2009/10 season Blue Square North division.
And the Reds will have local derbies against Eastwood Town and Ilkeston Town to look forward to with the Badgers being promoted as champions of the UniBond League Premier Division and the Robins winning the play-offs.
Corby have been promoted to step two level after winning the British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division last season. After finishing third in the same division as Corby, Gloucester City have also been moved into the northern section due to an imbalance of southern based teams being relegated from the Blue Square Premier.
King's Lynn have been demoted to UniBond League Premier Division after one season in Blue Square North due to their failure to meet ground grading criteria which has spared Hyde United from relegation although the Tameside club have received notice of commencement of winding-up proceedings issued by HM Revenue and Customs in respect of unpaid taxes amounting to around £200,000.
Relegated from the Conference Premier Division are Northwich Victoria who will be facing Alfreton for the first time since the 2005/06 season when the Cheshire club were promoted as champions of Conference North. The Vics triumphed 4-2 at the Impact Arena but the Reds got a very good point in a 1-1 draw away.
The Reds have faced Corby before, winning 2-1 in Northamptonshire in an FA Cup preliminary round back in the 2001/02 campaign.
Alfreton have never faced Gloucester City in any competition before.
Bill Draper reports: "The Reds also met Corby Town in Midland Floodlit Cup (Southern Section) in 1975/76, beating them 4-0 away at their old ground and 1-0 at a fog-bound Town Ground.
"There are no records to prove it but I seem to recall that the 4-0 win was remarkable for having three John Harrisons on the pitch!
"As well as our own legendary John Harrison, their full-backs were uncle and nephew John Harrison Senior and John Harrison Junior if I recall correctly, then again it was 34 years ago!"
Alfreton will meet Ilkeston Town for the first time in league action since the 1985/86 season when the Reds recorded a double over the Robins with a 2-1 away victory backed up by a 1-0 home win in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
The Reds will be facing Eastwood Town for points for the first time since the 2002/03 campaign when Alfreton won 4-1 at home and 4-0 away in the Northern Premier League (UniBond) First Division.
The full Blue Square North division for the 2009/10 season is:

FORMER REDS ON THE MOVE
Former Alfreton Town striker Michael Rankine has moved to York City from Rushden and Diamonds for a £10,000 fee. Also on the move is central midfield player Emeka Nwadike who has joined Blue Square North new boys Eastwood Town after being released by AFC Telford United.

REDS CLOSING IN ON TWO MIDFIELD PLAYERS
ALFRETON  Town manager Nicky Law is expecting to add his fifth and sixth signings of the summer to his squad over the next week.
The Reds boss has ‘agreed a deal in principle’ with a highly rated Blue Square North central midfield player and Alfreton have already agreed a transfer fee with his current club.
Law is also confident he will be adding another midfield player to his ranks as another deal has also been agreed with another former Football League and current Blue Square North midfield player who is expected to sign upon his return from holiday.
With the exception of a back-up goalkeeper, the additional signings of the midfield players will mean Law has all but finalised what looks to be a very strong squad ahead of pre-season training which starts on June 30.
Meanwhile, the club have have had a good early response from supporters to the brand new ‘Ten Match Ticket’ launched last week.
The ten match ticket enables fans to pick ten home league games of their choice to attend at a reduced entry cost throughout the 2009/10 season.
These tickets are priced at £80 for adults and £45 for concessions before the discount deadline of June 30. After that date and up until Friday, August 7, the price increases to £90 for adults and £50 for concessions.
Season ticket prices before the discount deadline are priced at £145 for adults and £75 for concessions - senior citizens and under-16s.
There is also a family ticket for two adults and two children which is £306 before the deadline.
After that date, season ticket prices rise to £161 for adults £80 for concessions and £331 for a family ticket.
The club are also offering the Junior Reds membership scheme again whereby fans up to and including 15 years of age can gain  ad-
mission to each home league game for just £1 per match provided they are accompanied through the turnstile by a paying adult.
There is an initial membership fee of £5 for the year for Junior Reds members.
Supporters wishing to purchase ten match tickets, season tickets or Junior Reds membership by cash payment can arrange to do so by contacting Lisa Towerzey on 01159 392090 extension 107.

NORTHWICH WIN APPEAL
NORTHWICH Victoria have won an appeal against the Football Conference’s decision to kick them out of the competition.
An FA panel are reported to have stated that the Vics - relegated from Blue Square Premier last season - will now start the 2009/10 season in Blue Square North with a ten-point deduction.

WORKING PARTIES - CAN YOU HELP?
It is that time of year again when Alfreton Town Football Club are in need of volunteers to help out with the external renovation work, painting, etc, to help get the Impact Arena ready for the 2009/10 campaign.
All help is greatly appreciated but what would help even more is if the people who have time to spare to help out, whether it be an hour or a few hours either over the weekend, or on an evening after work, could let health and safety officer Nigel Flint know how long you are available for in terms of hours and on what days.
This would help the club to plan proper working parties for the various projects currently being undertaken on the ground.
The stadium is open from around 9am to 1.30pm on a Saturday although later working shifts can be arranged if necessary.
The ground is open during the week from 8.30am to 4pm each day but working party work can also be arranged between 6pm and 9pm in the evenings.
Anyone who can help the club this summer can contact Nigel Flint on 07951561644 or email him at: nigelflint@aol.com

LAW: "WE WILL BE EVEN STRONGER"
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law thinks the Reds will be even stronger next season and that there may be more Town players receiving international recognition in the not too distant future.
The Derby Evening Telegraph report that:
Manager Nicky Law is determined to prove that Alfreton Town's unexpected promotion challenge was no flash in the pan.
The Reds over-achieved to finish third in the Blue Square North table but were edged out in their play-off semi-final by AFC Telford United over two legs.
However, Law has wasted little time in preparing for the 2009-10 campaign.
First, he agreed a new three-year contract at the Impact Arena, before quickly shaping his squad for next season.
Having retained the nucleus of his existing squad, he has already secured the services of four new signings.
Striker Anthony Howell has been signed up after a successful loan spell, following his release by Mansfield Town, along with goalkeeper Craig Dootson from Hyde United.
Right-back Dominic Roma has joined from Hinckley United, while 6ft 5in central defender Richard Pell arrives from Blyth Spartans.
Law believes his team will be even stronger than they were in 2008-9.
"People will realise we are serious contenders now and we want to prove that last season was no flash in the pan," he said.
"I'm sure it wasn't just luck – we had a good squad of players.
"But we are even better equipped now and, hopefully, we can push on.
"We will be one of the teams to beat – you have to come to terms with that when you are successful.
"But I don't see why that should be a problem."
He added: "It has been a busy few weeks since the season finished.
"I'm really pleased with how it's gone so far. Everything has been quite positive. We have been very proactive."
Gateshead followed champions Tamworth into the Blue Square Premier by beating Telford in the play-off final.
"The players gave it a hell of a go but, unfortunately, we just fell short," said Law.
"It was a shame because I honestly think that if we had got to the final, we would have won it.
"That is no disrespect to Gateshead, because they turned us over twice during the season.
"But I just had a gut feeling that, because they had beaten us twice, they wouldn't beat us again.
"I really fancied us against Gateshead but I suppose it's all ifs, buts and maybes.
"It is all about what we do next season now and we are planning for that already.
"With the players we are retaining, plus the ones we are bringing in, we will be stronger."
Alfreton ended the season with two England C internationals on their books, after prolific strike duo Paul Clayton and Liam Hearn were both capped.
The pair were the only players outside the Blue Square Premier to be included in the last squad and Law feels there could be even more call-ups on the way.
"I seriously believe that a few more of our players could come into the reckoning next season," he said.
"That shows how far we have come as a club and what good players we have got.
"I wouldn't be at all surprised if we end up with another couple of internationals on our books."

MAYBURY STEPS DOWN
Former Alfreton Town player and manager Jason Maybury has stepped down from his role as assistant manager to Peter Rinkcavage, another former Red, at UniBond League Premier Division side Worksop Town.
The Worksop Guardian report that: 'Maybury cited 'family reasons'. He said: "I have dedicated my last 10 years to football management and it is very time consuming and now is the time to put my family first."
"I have enjoyed every minute of working at such a great club and there is no doubt I will miss the day to day involvement with the players."
Maybury will continue in a coaching and scouting role, but said it was a tough decision to make.
"Me and Pete played in the Sheffield Boys together, we signed for Sheffield Wednesday at the same time and both played for Worksop and Alfreton together, we are godfathers to each others' children and I am his best man this summer, so telling him my decision wasn't exactly easy but he supports my decision."
Rinkcavage said: "Jason is an outstanding coach and a manager never had a more able or loyal assistant."
"I will be looking to appoint a new assistant as quickly as possible but it is a vital role and it is important we make the right appointment."

REDS ANNOUNCE A NEW 'TEN MATCH' TICKET' AND FREEZE PRICES
ALFRETON Town have frozen season ticket prices and announced another great value money saving scheme for Reds fans.
The club have introduced a brand new ‘ten match ticket’ which will enable
supporters to pick ten league games of their choice to go to at reduced entry cost throughout the 2009/10 Blue Square North campaign.

Season ticket prices will remain at exactly the same price as last season.

CLEAN SWEEP FOR PAUL CLAYTON AT AWARDS NIGHT
ALFRETON Town striker Paul Clayton swept the board at last Friday evening's presentation night.
Clayton, 24, was presented with all four of the club's official awards, landing the manager's, players' and supporters' player of the season trophies along with the top goalscorer.
The striker was rewarded with the four-trophy haul for a storming 2008/09 season in which he netted 26 goals for the Reds in 47 appearances, five of which were off the bench, which gave him a scoring ratio of better than one goal every two games.
Eighteen of his goals came in Blue Square North and his consistent performances also led to him being capped twice by England C team manager Paul Fairclough
.
Pictured above is Paul Clayton being presented with the manager's player of the season for 2008/2009 by Nicky Law.

HEARN EXTENDS CONTRACT
ALFRETON Town striker Liam Hearn has given the club a major boost by signing a new two-year contract with the Reds which will keep him at the Impact Arena until the end of the 2010/11 season.
After joining the club in early September, Hearn produced a phenomenal goalscoring spree and hit 22 in just 32 appearances, eight of which were off the bench.
His record in Blue Square North league games was a staggering 21 goals in 30 games, seven of which were as a substitute. That scoring spree came at a rate of better than one every game and a half.
The hot shot was rewarded with a first England C team cap in May when he came off the bench in England's 1-0 defeat in the International Trophy Challenge final against Belgium at Oxford United's Kassam Stadium.
His signature will delight Alfreton fans who will be hoping Hearn and strike partner Paul Clayton can reproduce last season's 48-goal tally between them which fired the Reds to the play-offs.

REDS TO VISIT STOCKSBRIDGE PARK STEELS
Alfreton Town have added another pre-season away fixture and they will now visit Stocksbridge Park Steels on Tuesday, July 14th.
Steels will be in the UniBond Premier Division next season after winning the First Division South play offs. The game at Bracken Moor will kick off at 7.45pm.
The Reds are still awaiting confirmation of a date for the Scunthorpe United home game but the confirmed pre-season games arranged so far can be viewed here

LAW MAKES IT FOUR SIGNINGS IN A WEEK
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has taken his tally of new signings to four in a week.
The Reds boss has strengthened his defence by signing right back Dominic Roma from Hinckley United and former Gainsborough Trinity and Blyth Spartans central defender Richard Pell.
Roma, 23, moves to the Impact Arena on a two-year contract after compensation under the Bosman rule was agreed between the two Blue Square North clubs.
He began his professional career in 2004 with Sheffield United. After working his way through the Blades youth set up he made numerous appearances for the reserve A team. He has also represented England at Under-18 and Under-19 level.
A loan spell at Boston United in 2005 was followed by him joining Tamworth in February 2006 on a free after being released by the Blades.
Joined Hinckley in July 2007 and went on to score four times in 94 appearances for the Knitters.
Richard Pell, 26, stands 6’5’’ tall and is a commanding central defender who began his career with Nottingham Forest.
He has also played for Lincoln City, Boston Town and Gainsborough Trinity before he moved to the north east to study as a chartered physiotherapist and joined Blyth Spartans in the summer of 2008.
An outstanding season at Croft Park saw him rewarded with the players’ player of the season, supporters’ player of the season and sponsors’ player of the season awards at Blyth where he starred in their run to the FA Cup third round, scoring three times in 48 appearances for Spartans.
Pell has joined Alfreton on a one year contract.
The pair follow goalkeeper Craig Dootson and striker Anthony Howell as new signings for the 2009/10 season.

FIRST TWO SIGNINGS OF SUMMER + RETAINED/RELEASED
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has seen all his hard work of the past three weeks pay handsome dividends.
The Reds boss has made his first two signings of the summer and persuaded all of his prized youngsters to sign either new or extended deals with the club.
Law said: “We have not stopped working since the end of last season. We have worked harder in the last three weeks trying to get all these lads tied up, but I am really happy now with the progress we have made.”
Law landed long time target, highly rated former Bury goalkeeper Craig Dootson (pictured right courtesy of the Manchester Evening News) after his contract ran out at Hyde United.
Preston-born Dootson, 30, began with Bamber Bridge before moving to Leigh RMI for an undisclosed fee and then on to a three year spell at Stalybridge Celtic from where he was picked up by Bury.
After his release by the Shakers in the summer of 2006, Craig joined Hyde United where he gained the reputation of the best keeper in the Blue Square North.
He also represented the British Universities in the World Student Games in 2001.
Then, after Mansfield Town perhaps surprisingly released Anthony Howell, Law swooped to land the striker on a two year deal following a highly successful loan spell towards the end of last season at the Impact Arena.
The Reds boss is expecting to make two more proven quality signings in the next few days and also has several more irons in the fire as he seeks to put the finishing touches to his squad early.
Closer to home, Law has been extremely busy tying down the core of his talented squad on either new or extended contracts.
The club are delighted to announce that Aden Flint and Anton Brown have both penned new two year contracts whilst Kris Bowler and Matt Wilson have both signed new one year deals.
Tom Curtis and Josh Law have both agreed new one year deals with the Reds.
On top of that list, Paul Clayton, Liam Hearn, Kyle McFadzean, Jordan Hall and Brian Cusworth are already under contract with the club to the end of the 2009/10 campaign.
Goalkeeper Steve Dickinson, right back Simon Marples and central defender Tony Butler are currently mulling over new one year offers.
Players not offered new terms are striker Danny Davidson, central defenders Paul Ellender and Martin McIntosh, goalkeepers Tom Evans and Kyle Sutcliffe, midfield players Danny Mayman and Ian Ross and striker Ben Muirhead who requires an operation which will unfortunately keep him out of football for the next eight months.
Alfreton Town extend sincere thanks to all those players for their efforts over what was a memorable 2008/09 season and extend best wishes to them all  for the future.

FIRST PRE-SEASON AWAY GAME
ALFRETON Town have added a first pre-season away fixture to their itinerary and they will visit Curzon Ashton on Tuesday, July 21, 7.45pm.

PRE-SEASON HOME GAMES ANNOUNCED
ALFRETON Town will have at least five home pre-season games as preparations for the 2009/10 campaign begin to build.
For the second summer in a row the Reds will welcome Macclesfield Town to the Impact Arena with memories of a 2-1 home win last year still fresh.
Keith Alexander brings the Macc lads to Alfreton on Thursday, July 16 and that fixture is
followed by further home games against Blue Square Premier Division neighbours Mansfield Town on Saturday, July 25, League Two side Bradford City on Tuesday, July 28, Nigel Clough’s Derby County on Friday, July 31 and League One play off finalists Scunthorpe United on a date to be confirmed.
No away games have been confirmed yet but there are plenty on offer to the Reds and some tasty choices are currently being mulled over by club.

FANS FORUM

The club have arranged a Fans Forum for Friday,  May 29 in the Reds Bar.
Supporters will get the chance to quiz manager Nicky Law about his player plans for the new campaign and club officials about things in general.
On the same night, the club will also be presenting the 2008/2009 end of season trophies, the manager’s, players’ player and supporters’ player of the season awards.
The evening kicks-off at 7pm, admission is free and a buffet will be provided.

TWO ENGLAND INTERNATIONALS
Alfreton Town now proudly have two England internationals following Tuesday night's International Trophy Challenge final against Belgium at Oxford United's Kassam Stadium.
Paul Clayton was handed his second start in an England C team shirt and gave a good account of himself before he was replaced by Reds team-mate Liam Hearn who looked sharp when he made his international debut on 69 minutes.
Belgium won the game 1-0 with a 64th minute Brecht Capon goal in front of 2,842.

ROBINS DUO FLY THE NEST TO TAKE OVER AT BOSTON UNITED
Ilkeston Town have lost the sevices of Rob Scott and Paul Hurst, who guided the club to promotion to Blue Square North via the UniBond League Premier Division play offs. The pair have left the New Manor Ground and taken over the managerial reins at Boston United.

LAW AGREES CONTRACT EXTENSION TO END OF 2011/2012
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has agreed a new three year contract with the Reds which will keep him at the Impact Arena until the end of the 2011/2012 season.
Law had one year of his original three year deal left but chairman Wayne Bradley has moved quickly to offer a two-year extension to the former Chesterfield and Bradford City boss following an incredible season for Alfreton.
The Reds manager guided the club to a record high finish of third place in Blue Square North with a points total of 77 which shattered the previous best of 54, and took the Reds into the play offs for the first time ever.
That was after Law had also led the club into the FA Cup second round proper for the first time ever as well.
And despite not progressing to the play off final after a narrow 5-4 aggregate defeat against AFC Telford United over two legs, the club’s immediate reaction to protect it’s prized assets will give confidence to the fans who are already eagerly awaiting the 2009/10 season.
Chairman Wayne Bradley commented: “We obviously have to put last season behind us and attempt to build matters for the new season.
“We don’t want to be seen as one season wonders and it is important that we start the planning and shaping ourselves for next season as soon as possible and we need to do that from the top downwards.
“We are delighted that Nicky has agreed to the extension of his contract and he has been asked to continue the very good work and foundations put in over the last two years but particularly the last nine months and build on what has been achieved.”
Law now be focusing on cementing the contracts of the key players the club are looking to keep and it is understood the retained list will be announced sooner rather than later this time around.
Speaking after last Sunday’s fantastic 4-3 home win over AFC Telford United, Law said: “You look at the lads we have got and it is a great platform to build on and take the club forward.
“We have got to go out now and add probably five or six players to the squad we have got.
“But the first job we have got to do is tie the players up that obviously we are going to try and build around and that will happen over the next couple of weeks.”

LAW IS MANAGER OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law has won the Blue Square North manager of the month award for April.
The Reds achieved five wins and two draws during the month to finish third in the table. They beat fellow promotion hopefuls Southport and Telford as they qualified for the play-offs.
It is anticipated that Law will be presented with his award at one of the club's pre-season friendly home games.
In the Blue Square South the award goes to Newport County AFC manager Dean Holdsworth. The former Bolton and Wimbledon star has steered County to a top half finish after a difficult start to the season. Newport finished the season with four wins and a draw in their five matches during the month.
Northwich Victoria manager Andy Preece has won the Blue Square Premier award for April. Despite the club suffering the disappointment of relegation to the Blue Square North their form during the final weeks of the season was the best in the division. Six straight wins brought the season to a positive conclusion with hopes that the club can bounce back at the first attempt under the guidance of the former Blackpool and Bury forward. A final day win at promotion chasing Oxford United was a real highlight.
BLUE SQUARE PLAYERS OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL
Northwich Victoria defender Simon Grand has won the Blue Square Premier Player of the Month award for April. Grand was a key part in The Vics blistering April form, despite the club being relegated to the Blue Square North. Grand contributed with three goals during the period as well as commanding a defence that conceded only three times in seven games.
In the Blue Square South the award goes to Josh Scott of Hayes & Yeading United. Scott scored four times during the month as his club achieved a play-off place in the division.
Adam Warlow from Fleetwood Town has won the award in the Blue Square North. Warlow showed great form in April and throughout the whole season to help his side to a very respectable eighth place finish in the table.

THANKS
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law was unable to thank the fans himself for Sunday's turn out and fantastic support on the day as he was too emotional.
He said: "On behalf of Russ and I and the players, I would like to thank everyone for their great support throughout. The fans, along with the players, made for a great day on Sunday. It was a fantastic atmosphere.
"I am just so sorry for the players and fans that we couldn't quite pull it off but we had a great ride along the way and went so close.
"I wanted to stop on the way out of the ground and thank all the loyal fans who always stay behind in the bar but I know I would have been too emotional.
"So thanks once again to everyone and we will endeavour to take it further next season."

ALFRETON TOWN 4, AFC TELFORD UNITED 3 (4-5 on aggregate)
Alfreton Town fell just short at the final hurdle as they beat AFC Telford United 4-3 in a pulsating and hugely entertaining game in front of 2,244 at the Impact Arena on Sunday but missed out on a play off final place after losing 5-4 on aggregate.
The Reds got the desired start they wanted and went two goals up in the first 16 minutes through Tony Butler's first goal of the season when he headed home a corner on nine minutes and an Anton Brown close range shot.
But Telford managed to stem the flow and pulled one back through Danny Edwards on 18 and a second from Danny Carey-Bertram on 42 from close range.
Paul Clayton's 26th goal of the season got Alfreton back in front on 49 minutes but Telford levelled again on 53 minutes through Carl Rodgers.
With 17 minutes left Alfreton went back in front when Anthony Howell kept his cool to net from the penqalty spot in front of the massed ranks of visiting United fans after Paul Clayton had been felled by substitute Jimmy Turner.
Alfreton poured forward and put the visitors under massive pressure for the remainder of the game but despite a fantastic effort, Nicky Law's side just couldn't find a way through a packed defence.

LAW: "HOME SUPPORT CAN HELP US THROUGH TO FINAL"
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law says home support can help his side reach the Blue Square North play off final this Sunday.
The Reds face AFC Telford United in the semi final second leg at the Impact Arena (3pm) and they will have to overturn a 2-0 deficit if they are to progress to the final against favourites Gateshead or Southport.
But despite trailing, the Reds boss is confident his side can turn it around.
He said: “It is important that we get about them on Sunday and if we can get the first goal we can cause them problems.
“It will be a different game at our place. The troops will rally and we will get a good crowd in and we can make it as intimidating as it most definitely was there.
“We are two down at half time with another 90 minutes to come. There is everything to play for and everything to gain. We will be giving it a right good go.
“It won’t be easy for them on Sunday, Telford will know they have been in a game.”
Law felt his side didn’t perform anywhere near their capabilities in the first leg.
He added: “Any neutral there on Wednesday night wouldn’t have seen the true Alfreton Town. We self inflicted on two goals and you can’t do that at any level. We were disappointed with both goals we conceded and they were uncharacteristic ones for us to concede.
“We had one or two square pegs in round holes and obviously we are disappointed to have got beat.
“We were more than comfortable in the first half in the first leg and never looked in danger although that was without creating a great deal for ourselves but they didn’t create a great deal either.
“We conceded a very poor goal just into the second half. We had a chance to defend the cross and another couple of chances to clear the ball which we failed to do and paid the price which gave them a great kick start.
“They had a decent spell for ten to 15 minutes which you would expect with them being at home. We knew there would be times when we would come under pressure and maybe a bit of nerves were in there as well, particularly with the second goal.
“We had a glorious chance at 1-0 down. Their lad has played a back pass to Paul Clayton who only had the keeper to beat but he tried to net it with the outside of his boot put it wide.
“It was a big turning point but I am not laying any blame on Paul, because without his goals this season we wouldn’t be where we are now.
“If he had scored I think we could have gone on and got at least a draw but it wasn’t to be.”
Alfreton will have the boost of having club captain Tom Curtis available again for Sunday’s tie and Law is expecting right back Simon Marples to return after injury as well.
Curtis was unavailable for the first leg as he was on duty as head coach of the Loughborough University side who won the national BUCS championship title on Wednesday evening after a nail biting match against Hartpury went to sudden death and a 14th penalty at QPR’s Loftus Road ground.
Sour note
The first leg tie on Wednesday night ended on a sour note with a huge bust-up between both sets of players taking place just outside the tunnel, an event which Reds boss Nicky Law blamed on Telford right-back Lee Vaughan.
He said: "I thought he had played well and then he spoiled it at the end, causing the fracas by spitting in Tony Butler's face.
"That is the lowest of the low and there is no need for that anywhere in society, let alone on the football pitch."

SECOND ENGLAND CALL UP FOR ALFRETON STRIKERS
ALFRETON Town's 47-goal strikeforce of Paul Clayton and Liam Hearn have been rewarded for their outstanding efforts this season with a second call up into the England C squad.
In a squad of 16 announced by manager Paul Fairclough, the Reds pair are the only two players chosen from outside the Blue Square Premier Division for the International Trophy Challenge Final against Belgium which is being played at Oxford United's Kassam Stadium on Tuesday, May 19 (7.45pm).
The full England squad is: Lance Cronin (Ebbsfleet United), Adam Bartlett (Kidderminster Harriers), Daniel Gleeson (Cambridge United), Exodus Geohaghan (Kettering Town), Darius Charles (Ebbsfleet United), Ronnie Henry (Stevenage Borough), Scott Laird (Stevenage Borough), Russell Penn (Kidderminster Harriers), Michael Bostwick (Stevenage Borough), Lee Tomlin (Rushden & Diamonds), Josh Simpson (Histon), James Constable (Oxford United), Mitchell Cole (Stevenage Borough), Paul Clayton (Alfreton Town), Liam Hearn (Alfreton Town), Nicky Wroe (Torquay United).
It is the second time the Reds strike force have been called up by Paul Fairclough with Clayton impressing when winning his debut cap as England triumphed 4-0 against Malta in Paola on February 17.
Hearn will especially be looking forward to the Belgium game as problems in obtaining a passport ruled him out of the Malta trip.
Clayton has scored 25 and Liam Hearn 22 in all competitions for Alfreton so far.
