Kyle Sutcliffe - Date of birth: 28/6/84. Goalkeeper.
Joined the Reds from Conference Premier Division side Farsley Celtic in September 2007.
Has past experience with Northern Counies East League Premier Division side Liversedge.
Laurence Matthewson - Date of birth: 22/4/88. Goalkeeper.
Highly regarded 6'3'' tall yet agile keeper with excellent reactions who joined the Reds for a small fee on Saturday, February 9, 2008 from Worksop Town. Began his career with Manchester City and played a major part in helping the youth team reach the 2006 FA Youth Cup final which they narrowly lost 3-2 on aggregate against Liverpool. He also figured in City's Reserve side during the 2006/07 campaign. After a three year scholarship he was released by then Blues boss Stuart Pearce in May 2007 whereupon he joined Worksop.
Ben Scott - Date of birth: 16/11/83. Goalkeeper.
Joined the Reds on Sunday, March 30th. Began his career with Sheffield United as a trainee in August 2002. After being released two years later he had a month's stay with Gainsborough Trinity before moving on to Hereford United in August 2003. Made his Hednesford debut on January 19, 2008, and went on to make eight appearances before being released in late March.
Mark Barnard - Date of birth: 27/11/75 Defender.
Now in his second season with the Reds, ‘Barny’ is an experienced defender with a cultured left foot who joined the club in June 2006.
He began as a trainee with Rotherham United, joining Worksop Town briefly, before moving into League football with Darlington in 1995, where he made over 150 first team appearances in his four years there. In 1999, Mark joined Doncaster Rovers for a season and then Northwich Victoria for two seasons. He re-joined Worksop Town in 2002, moved to Tamworth in 2003 and appeared once for Belper Town before joining Harrogate Town after which he followed then manager John Reed to Stalybridge Celtic.
Mark will be hoping for better fortune this season after suffering two separate spells out with injury in the last campaign.
Tony Butler - Date of birth: 28/09/72 Central defender.
Powerfully built 6' 2'' tall, vastly experienced player who joined Alfreton on November 14, 2007, two days after being released by Hinckley United. Boasts almost 500 Football League appearances with Blackpool, Port Vale, West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City and has commanded transfer fees totalling £495,000. Began his career as a trainee with Gillingham.
He also had a spell as club captain of Forest Green Rovers and a loan spell at Newport before joining Hinckley in January 2007.
Rob Pacey - Date of birth: 18/6/87. Defender.
Joined the Reds on Thursday, January 17, 2008, after being released from a short term contract by AFC Telford United. A dominant central defender, Pacey began his career at Doncaster Rovers in October 2005 and was released in June 2007 after seeing out the last three months of the 2006/07 campaign on loan at Gateshead.
He had a pre-season outing with Halifax Town before joining Telford where he made 18 Conference North appearances up to Christmas with the promotion-chasing Bucks.
Matt Wilson - Date of birth: 10/03/87. Utility.
Versatile player who signed for the Reds on the opening day of the season having proved his abilities in pre-season games.
Good in the air and comfortable on the ball with both feet, he has played most positions but prefers centre back or a midfield holding role.
Matt was signed as a schoolboy by Darlington, originally as a striker.
Played at the old Wembley at the age of 13 before the Division Two play off final between Darlington and Peterborough United.
He was released from Darlington aged 16 and then played for Redcar-based Mackinlay Park in the Jack Hatfield League.
Captained the Sheffield Hallam University first team before moving on to Dinnington Town. Played the last ten games of the 2006/07 campaign at Grantham Town.
Kyle McFadzean - Date of birth: 28/2/87. Defender.
Powerful and commanding 6’ 1’’ central defender who joined the Reds in June 2007 after being released by Sheffield United where he had been on contract since September 2005 and made one full appearance during the 2005/06 campaign. Son of former Reds favourite John.
Karl Colley - Date of birth: 13/10/83. Defender.
Tall and powerfully built central defender who joined the Reds on January 24, 2008, from Sheffield FC. He began his career at Newcastle United as a trainee before going to Sheffield United where he featured regularly in the reserves. Upon release by the Blades in March 2003 he moved on to Kettering Town, Frickley Athletic, Halifax Town and Hucknall Town - where he figured in their successful UniBond Premier Division title run in. In August 2004 he joined Bradford Park Avenue then went on to Barrow in September for the remainder of the season. After having his contract terminated by mutual consent in September 2005, Karl moved to Stocksbridge Park Steels to the end of the 2005/06 campaign and then on to Retford United in the close season of 2006. Moved to Sheffield FC a year later.
Currently on a three month loan spell with Lincoln United.
Anton Brown - Date of birth: 3/7/87. Defence/Midfield.
Joined in the summer of 2006 after impressing in pre-season trials. A number of solid performances throughout last season earned him another deal.
Formerly with Mansfield Town's youth set up, he also had a spell with Central Midlands League Supreme Division outfit Greenwood Meadows. Midfield ball winner with a very good 'engine' and work ethic. A very capable stand-in left back on a few occasions last season.
Kris Bowler - Date of birth: 26/10/83. Midfield.
Joined the Reds on a two year contract in June 2007 for an undisclosed four figure fee from neighbours Matlock Town where he had regularly put in impressive displays since February 2004.
Prior to that, left sided midfield player Kris had been at Wakefield & Emley after being released by Rotherham United at the end of the 2002/03 campaign. He had played for the Millers’ youth team and reserves.
Chris Walton - Date of birth: 2/11/83. Midfield.
Tall, strong, commanding central midfield player who joined the Reds in June 2007 after previously being with Nicky Law’s successful Buxton side. Energetic ball winning player who can also make the play.
Yorkshireman who has also had experience with Liversedge and Farsley Celtic.
Laurie Wilson - Date of birth: 5/12/84. Defence/Midfield.
Wilson has an impressive pedigree as he is the son of former Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Bristol City boss Danny Wilson.
A former Northern Ireland youth international, Laurie, 22, is a workhorse type of midfield player with a good array of passing. He was both manager’s and supporters’ player of the season at Hucknall last season after nine goals in 45 appearances.
He began his career as a scholar with Sheffield Wednesday in 2001 and progressed to the first team where he made three appearances.
He was released by Wednesday at the end of the 2003/04 season from where he joined Burton Albion. Spent part of the following season on loan at Grantham Town and Belper Town before joining Kidderminster Harriers in June 2005 from where he joined Hucknall.
Sown his versatility in a number of positions this season.
Matt Glass – Date of birth: 28/05/88. Midfield.
Highly talented youngster now in his second season with Alfreton having agreed a new 12-month deal in July 2007. Formerly at Nottingham Forest, he joined the Reds just before the 2006/07 season after impressing in pre-season games.
Skillful and lively midfield player who has also played up front for the Reds first team.
Already forced his way into the first team and got his name on the scoresheet. He was the star of last season’s Under-19s League Cup victory with a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over league champions Hallam. Currently out on a one month loan spell with Lincoln United.
Josh Law - Date of birth: 19/8/89. Midfield.
Joined on Friday, October 5th, 2007, on three a three-months loan term from League Two neighbours Chesterfield where he was a product of the Spireites Academy set up.
He has featured in the Blues first team this season and on the bench.
Son of manager Nicky, Josh is predominantly a right-sided midfield player. Busy player with plenty of skill, he was man of the match in his debut game.
Stephen Warne - Date of birth: 27/2/84. Midfield.
Joined the Reds on Friday, October 19 and made his debut in a 2-0 home win over Workington the day after.
The talented central midfield player moved to the Impact Arena from UniBond League Premier Division neighbours Matlock Town where he had spent the previous three seasons.
He began his career as a trainee with Chesterfield in 2001 under the managership of Nicky Law. He made four first team appearances for Blues in the 2002/03 campaign.
Steve joined the Gladiators in November 2004 after loan spells with both Worksop Town and Hucknall Town before being released by the Spireites.
Jordan Hall - Midfield. Date of birth: 7/5/84. Midfield.
Joined the Reds after being released by Buxton on March 21st. He had returned to the Silverlands from a loan spell with Hucknall Town. Began with his home town team Chesterfield before a first spell with Hucknall, joining Buxton in the summer of 2005 where he was a consistent regular. Already made an impressive start to his Alfreton career and produced a stunning 30-yard equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Worcester City on his debut.
Jason St. Juste - Date of birth: 21/9/85. Utility.
Joined the Reds on Friday, March 14th on loan to the end of the season from Garforth Town.
The hard working, pacey left-sided utility player is a graduate of the Leeds Brazilian Soccer School from where he progressed to join Darlington in September 2004 where he played 17 first team games for the Quakers.
From there he moved to Southampton where he was unable to break into the first team scene and then had trials with Huddersfield Town before returning to Garforth.
Made his Alfreton debut as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat at Leigh RMI.
Dan Gray - Date of birth: 23/11/89. Midfield.
Joined Alfreton on March 20th on work experience from League Two neighbours Chesterfield.
A skillful left sided midfield player who has already made his mark in the first team.
Brian Cusworth - Date of birth: 25/7/79. Striker.
Powerfully built 6’4’’ old fashioned style centre forward with a good touch and aerial dominance. Had a phenomenal goalscoring ratio at his former club Parkgate where he smashed over 50 goals in a title winning 2006/07 campaign despite missing a couple of months of the campaign through injury. He top scored for the past four seasons for the Rotherham-based club before Nicky Law beat a host of clubs to his signature.
Keen to make the step up from Counties football and has already made his presence felt in the Alfreton side with a string of man of the match performances and goals.
Danny Reet - Date of birth: 31/1/87. Striker.
A strong centre forward with good mobility and a proven goalscoring record, Danny joined Alfreton on a three-month loan period in mid-September 2007 from League Two neighbours Mansfield Town. Extended that loan spell on Sunday, December 16th.
He cost the Stags a £25,000 fee when they signed him from Sheffield Wednesday in January 2006.
The 6'0'' front runner has also had loan spells with Bury and Rochdale.
He was released by Mansfield Town at the end of March - effectively ending his loan spell at the Impact Arena but he signed on to the the end of the season with the Reds.
Paul Clayton - Date of birth: 31/08/84. Striker.
Joined the Reds on New Year's Eve from Blue Square Conference North rivals Gainsborough Trinity. The Rotherham-based targetman began his career at the Barnsley FC Academy where he spent four years. Following release by the Tykes, Paul moved to NCEL outfit Parkgate where he enjoyed a prolific partnership with Brian Cusworth last season before moving to Gainsborough in the summer. Made an immediate impact at Alfreton when he scored on his debut to put the Reds in front in the 2-1 home win over Hucknall Town on New Year's Day.
A busy leader of the line, he is good in the air especially, but also possesses good control for a big man.
Massiah McDonald - Date of birth: 20/8/90. Striker.
Established front runner now in his third season with Alfreton’s Under-19s side with whom he won silverware over the past two seasons and is captain this time around.
A precocious talent and dead ball expert who already has plenty of goals for the club’s Under-19s side this season. His impressive form has seen him called into the first team this season. Scored within eight minutes of coming on as a substitute on his debut against Holbrook MW in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
Jacob Walters-Lang - Date of birth: 11/9/90. Striker.
Powerfully built front runner who has been in impressive scoring form with the club’s Under-19s side this season.
Formerly with Sheffield Wednesday’s Academy and currently studying at Chesterfield College as a result which he is part of the College Academy side. Also a member of the Sheffield & Hallamshire representative squad and recently had trials with the British University squad.
Already featured in the first team this season when he debuted in the 3-0 win over Hucknall Town in the Setanta Shield in early October..
Chris Dodds - Date of birth: 25/7/89. Striker.
Formerly with South Normanton Colts. He has been with the club a couple of years and Chris has shown impressive form with the Under-19s side which has led to call-ups to the first team squad already this season. Can play down the middle or as a winger.
John McAliskey - Date of birth: 2/9/84. Striker.
Joined the Reds on Sunday, March 30th after being released by Mansfield Town. John is a 6’4’’ striker who his career with Huddersfield Town as a trainee in July 2003 before moving on loan to Torquay United in November 2005 and Wrexham 11 months later. He signed for the Stags in August 2007 and had made 19 appearances this season.
MANAGEMENT TEAM
MANAGER Nicky Law Date of birth: 8/9/61.
Nicky was appointed manager of Alfreton Town on Monday, May 14, 2007, after resigning his post at Buxton the day before.
He had led the Bucks to promotion after winning the UniBond First Division title and also landing the President’s Cup which made it back to back promotions and three cup wins in his two seasons at the Silverlands.
A professional licence as well as UEFA A and B coaching licence holder, Law is the highest qualified manager ever to have taken charge of the Reds.
He has loads of experience having also managed Grimsby Town, Bradford City and Chesterfield in the Football League, leading the latter to promotion from the old Third Division in the 2000/01 campaign.
He has also held player/coach roles at both Ilkeston Town and Stafford Rangers.
COACH/CHIEF SCOUT Russ O’Neill Date of birth: 23/6/72.
Russ came into the Impact Arena having been part of the successful management trio with Nicky Law and Chris Marples over two years at Buxton.
As a midfield player he began with Everton under Howard Kendall where he had four years before having trials at both Sheffield United and Leeds United.
A knee injury ended his professional aspirations and after a short spell with Sheffield FC, he turned to management in Sunday League football.
Following a hugely successful 13-year spell he was asked by Nicky Law to join him at Buxton and utilise his vast array of contacts in the non league game.
