Sheffield-born Marples began his career with Stocksbridge Park Steels in 1998 before being transferred for £12,000 to Doncaster Rovers a year later where he played a part in the South Yorkshire club’s back to back promotions from the Conference to League One.
After 180 appearances he was released by Rovers and joined Chester in June 2006.
After making 50 appearances in all competitions for City, he took the decision to go part time just before the end of the 2007/08 campaign.
