York City v Alfreton Town

York City v Alfreton Town

Thursday Feb 22, 2018

Alfreton visit another promotion chasing team this Saturday in the National League North when we visit Bootham Crescent to to take on York City, kick-off 3pm.

Confidence will be high after Tuesday's fightback at Harrogate Town going very close to earning an unlikely point in a 4-3 defeat. The Reds were 4-0 down after 34 minutes on Tuesday night but Chris Sharp started the comeback before half time, striking on 41 minutes. New loan addition Nyal Bell grabbed a brace in three minutes mid way through the second half; as the Reds were transformed after the break.

A stunning save late on denied James Baxendale's header as the Reds missed out on an unbelievable come back but again there were plenty of positives to take after the results against Salford and Harrogate.

Alfreton head into the fixture against York having won one of the last four league games including back to back defeats but before this run had lost just once in six league games. Defeat on Tuesday night was our second in a row on the road as we look to prevent that becoming three at York on Saturday.

Defeats to Salford and Harrogate has seen us slip down the table to 17th, but the Reds performances against the top two in the last two fixtures has left fans and management alike still very positive as Alfreton continue to improve, develop and grow. Our last two games has seen us push the top teams all the way yet again and we face another tough test at Bootham Crescent.

The Minstermen will be looking to bounce back from a surprising 4-1 setback at Curzon Ashton last Saturday. Niall Cummins bagging a hat-trick for the hosts with their other goal coming from Sam Walker. Cummins also missed a penalty. It was a bad day at the office for York with substitute Alex Kempster notching a consolation goal after Jon Parkin was shown a straight red card in the 64th minute.

The Minstermen currently lie 6th in the Vanarama National League North table with 49 points from 31 games, five points clear of 8th placed Bradford PA the play-off spots.

Their team last Saturday was: Bartlett, Brown, Ferguson, Bencherif, Moke, Newton, Heslop, Burn, Parkin, Pattison, Connelly

Subs: Kempster, Simpson, Correia, Parslow, Williams.

York's 4-1 defeat at Curzon Ashton has seen City win just once in their last five league games. However the Minstermen are unbeaten in the last four league games at Bootham Crescent (W3, D1).

We went down to  York after a narrow 3-2 defeat at the Impact Arena back in November, twice equalising through Cieron Keane and Brendon Daniels before Jon Parkin bagged the winner from the penalty spot, his second goal of the game with Aidan Connolly also on the scoresheet for the Minstermen. It was a game where we finished with ten men after two yellow cards for Tom Platt and Bradley Wood also had a spot kick saved.

Reds boss Chris Moyses:

"We dust ourselves down from Tuesday and it will be another difficult game for us, it's a difficult place to go but at least we can get al of these tough games out of the way and see where we are. But again like always we will head there with a plan and we will enjoy it as always, it will be tough but we have plenty of quality in us and the lads have great confidence and belief despite the last two results and we will look to pick up the points on Saturday."

Admission to the game is £14 for adults and £10 for concessions (over 65). Under 18's £5. There is an extra £1 charge to enter the covered seating.
