WOKING v ALFRETON TOWN PREVIEW
Friday Apr 11, 2014
SATURDAY, APRIL 12th, 3:07pm
By Matt Carter
Without a win in four games, Alfreton Town travel to Woking on Saturday for what can only be considered as yet another must win encounter if they are to uphold their Skrill Premier play-off bid.
The Reds went down to a shock 4-1 loss at home on Tuesday night against an Aldershot Town side fighting tooth and nail to maintain their place in the division.
Despite a 3-0 home defeat against Cambridge United on Thursday evening, Woking have no such fears with a sequence of six successive victories firmly ending any lingering doubts regarding relegation, the run of wins was ended on Tuesday night, but they still achieved a more than respectable 2-2 draw at third-placed Grimsby Town.
One factor in Alfreton’s favour could be that it will be Woking's third game in five days on Saturday – enough to test the resolve on any squad.
Nicky Law’s side came out victorious in the reverse fixture where a brace from Tom Shaw and a late strike from Daniel Meadows took them to a 3-1 victory in early September at the Impact Arena, whilst the Reds also clinched a 2-1 victory on their last visit to Woking – a similar result is essential to maintain any hopes of a top five finish, particularly given that fourth and fifth placed Gateshead and FC Halifax Town both have a game in hand.
There are no new injury worries and aside from the two long-term victims, Michael Wylde and John McGrath, manager Nicky Law has a fully fit squad at his disposal.
Despite the recent sequence of results, the play-off dream remains very much alive but Alfreton simply must regain momentum on Saturday.
The match will kick-off at the later time of 3.07pm following a minute's silence at 3.06pm in remembrance of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster 25 years ago on April 15th, 1989.
ATFC Supporters’ Association transport to Woking departs at 8.45am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
