The Reds built up a commanding 5-0 half-time lead with a brace of goals each from Nathan Jarman and Nathan Arnold and one from debutant Louis Moult and added one more in the second half through substitute Paul Clayton who steered a flicked on Anthony Wilson header home with his thigh from a couple of yards out on 77 minutes.
Alfreton got off to a great start with a goal after just four minutes when Nathan Jarman volleyed the Reds in front from six yards out and the lead was doubled on 11 when Nathan Arnold produced a lovely piece of skill inside the home penalty area before firing a low left-footed shot.
Arnold made it 3-0 on 25 minutes after controlling a through ball from Jake Moult he advanced before firing home a 12 yard angled drive across home keeper Nick Jordan and into the far corner.
As the hosts failed to clear their lines, Nathan Jarman blasted in his second of the tie on 38 minutes from 18 yards before Louis Moult smashed an angled six-yard shot into into the bottom corner of the net on 45 minutes.
Very pleasingly, Dan Lowson kept a clean sheet on his return to the number one shirt. Adam Quinn missed the game with a calf strain.
The attendance was 739 with an estimated 90 making the 480-mile round trek from Derbyshire.
Nathan Arnold was named the Reds man of the match.
The draw for the third round of the competition is scheduled to be made on Monday morning (Jan 16) and our opponents will be announced on here as soon as we have the draw.
Alfreton return to Blue Square Bet Premier Division action next Saturday (Jan 21) when Kidderminster Harriers are the visitors to the Impact Arena. Kick-off is 3pm.
