BOXING DAY DELIGHT FOR REDS

Matt Duke saved a penalty as Alfreton Town recorded a much-needed and deserved 2-1 Vanarama National North league win at Tamworth on Boxing Day.

The Reds were 2-1 ahead thanks to goals from Sam Smith on four minutes and Lindon Meikle on 69, both netting their first goals for the club, when Duke produced a terrific save to keep out a Leon Mettam penalty on 83 minutes.

The win ended a run of four successive league defeats and moved the Reds up one place to fifteenth, three points clear of the relegation places.
