SPOTS OF WOE AS REDS GO DOWN 3-1 IN SEASON'S OPENER
Sunday Aug 14, 2011
Alfreton Town missed two penalties in the first half as they fell to a 3-1 opening day defeat at Hayes & Yeading United in a first ever Blue Square Bet Premier Division fixture for the club.
Home keeper Steven Arnold saved spot-kicks from Paul Clayton on 20 minutes and Josh Law on 45.
Matt McClure had put the home side ahead on nine minutes with a close range finish and after Clayton's penalty had been saved, Richard Pacquette doubled the lead with a curling shot into the far corner on the half-hour.
Substitute Jamie Mullan gave Alfreton hope when he finished a low cross from Nathan Arnold with 20 minutes left but the home side took the first three points of the season when Ryan Crockford netted a 25-yard free kick three minutes later.
The Alfreton man of the match was Anton Brown and the game was played in front of just 262 paying spectators, around 80 of which were from Derbyshire.
The Reds have their first home game of the new season on Tuesday night when Southport are the visitors to the Impact Arena.
Kick-off is 7.45pm.
