SOUTHPORT V ALFRETON TOWN PREVIEW
Monday Sep 23, 2013
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th, 7.45pm
Alfreton Town will be looking for their second successive away win on Tuesday night as they travel to the Merseyrail Community Stadium to face Southport.
The Reds will be in confident mood going into the midweek clash; they are currently unbeaten in four and sit in their highest-ever position of third in the Skrill Premier table. While Alfreton are still unbeaten at home, their away record is less convincing, with their only points on the road coming in the 1-0 win over Macclesfield just over a week ago.
But after the manner of their 3-1 victory over Barnet at the weekend, Nicky Law’s side will be feeling confident as they make the trip to Haig Avenue. There are no new injury worries for Alfreton and Nicky Law will have a fully-fit squad to choose from. Daniel Meadows is expected to be fit despite coming off in the win against Barnet after taking a free-kick to the side of the head.
Southport are currently on a run of four games without a win, having only picked up one point from a possible 12 so far in September, and Alan Wright's men sit 14th in the league standings. Southport, like Alfreton, however are also undefeated at home this campaign, with their only dropped points at the Merseyrail Community Stadium coming in a 2-2 draw with Welling just over a week ago.
When the two sides met at Southport last season, it was the Reds who came away with the three points, turning in an impressive performance on a very windy day to win 2-0 with goals from Anton Brown and Daniel Meadows. Alfreton will be wary of the Port’s impressive home form so far this season but will undoubtedly be looking to push for the three points and consolidate their position in the upper echelons of the Skrill Premier division.
