FIRST REDS WIN LIFTS THEM OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE TABLE

Alfreton Town recorded their first Vanarama Conference win of the 2014/15 season at the ninth attempt when they triumphed 2-0 at Southport on Saturday.

The Reds got off to a blistering start with goals from Joe Ironside on two minutes and Karl Hawley on nine to open up a two-goal advantage they held to the end as theyalso recorded an extremely rare but nevertheless oh so pleasing clean sheet.

Ironside netted for a second successive game and took his tally to three since joining the club on loan from Sheffield United. Hawley came up trumps after being handed his first start in a Reds shirt by manager Nicky Law who also recalled fit again Chris Smith and Anthony Howell and Lathaniel Rowe-Turner who both returned from suspension.

Victory lifted Alfreton off the bottom of the table, they being replaced by AFC Telford United who are the visitors to the Impact Arena on Tuesday evening. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

The attendance was 832 which included 41 from Alfreton.
