SOLIHULL MOORS v ALFRETON TOWN, SATURDAY, APRIL 9th, 3pm
Friday May 13, 2011
LEAGUE leaders Alfreton Town head to fifth-placed Solihull Moors on Saturday for yet another big Blue Square Bet North fixture.
Nicky Law's side need the points to maintain their push for the title but it is every bit as big a game for Solihull, who are now under pressure from Eastwood Town's 13-game unbeaten run which has carried the Badgers to within catching distance of the fifth play-off place if they win their two games in hand.
The Moors go into the game in search of a first win in four league games and also looking for a first goal since beating Boston United 1-0 four games ago on March 26 with a Matt Smith goal on 75 minutes.
Make no mistake though, this will be a tough place to go and get points as Solihull have only been beaten twice on home turf this season, Guiseley and AFC Telford United both winning 1-0 at Damson Park.
The Moors have drawn against Droylsden (2-2), Harrogate Town (2-2), Nuneaton Town (1-1) and Stafford Rangers (1-1).
Aside from the Boston success, Solihull have also recorded wins at home against Hyde (3-2), Workington (2-0), Corby Town (7-2), Vauxhall Motors (1-0), Redditch United (3-0), Worcester City (2-0), Stalybridge Celtic (3-1), Gloucester City (2-1), Eastwood Town (2-0) and Blyth Spartans (2-0) way back on the opening day of the season.
Solihull's climb into the play-off places has been built mainly on their home form with 37 of their 63 points coming from points gained on their own patch.
The leading scorer in the league for the Moors is Ryan Beswick with 11. For Alfreton, Liam Hearn's hat-trick in midweek puts him right at the top of the pile in the division with 24, one goal more than Paul Brayson at Blyth Spartans.
Victory can wrap up a ninth league double for Nicky Law's side having recorded a 2-0 home win over the Moors on Monday, March 28 thanks to a brace of Josh Law goals.
Solihull would remain in fifth even if they won as they are five points behind fourth-placed Nuneaton Town.
Reds manager Nicky Law has no players suspended and no new injury worries as his side go chasing a fifth straight league victory, a third in a row away, and a sixth consecutive clean sheet.
