Read our report from our comprehensive win against Burton Albion on Wednesday evening

Alfreton Town gave their best pre season performance to date against Burton Albion on Wednesday night, with Tom Denton leading the way with a brace, ably supported by goals from Jack Lane, Richard Peniket and Dec Bacon.

Peniket opened the scoring for the Reds on 22 minutes with a firm header from a Bobby Johnson corner, but Chris Beardsley levelled for the Brewers 14 minutes later when he was on hand to follow up Reece Hutchinsons stinging drive.

Jack Lane headed Alfreton back in front seven minutes into the second half with a carbon copy goal to the opener from another Johnson corner and Denton headed home from a long James Clifton throw in the 69th minute to make it 3-1.

Burton pulled one back through Liam Boyce on 74 minutes but within 60 seconds Denton had been presented with the ball by a sloppy defensive pass, the striker deftly going around Jack Livesey to score moments after the keeper had taken the field.

The final goal was the pick of the seven, Bacon smashing the ball home from the edge of the area from a Denton lay off to complete a resounding victory over the League One outfit.

The two clearest chances other than those that scored came on 56 minutes, when a lethal Johnson free kick struck the back post and on 64 minutes when Matt Lund sent Lucas Akins through only for Josh Wilde to tackle back superbly.
