REDS SO CLOSE TO SURVIVAL

REDS SO CLOSE TO SURVIVAL

Wednesday Apr 3, 2013

Alfreton Town's fine away form has taken them to within possibly one more win of ensuring their Conference Premier Division status for a third successive season.
Along with Hereford United, Nicky Law's side have the best away record outside of the top six in the division and a 2-0 success at Southport on Easter Monday took the side on to 51 points and lifted them up to 15th place in the table, five points above the relegation places with five games to go.
It was a very productive day for Alfreton whose seventh away win of the campaign was the only three-pointer achieved by any of the bottom ten clubs on the day.
In most recent seasons, 50 points has been the target for survival, but with several teams in the relegation zone picking up points regularly over the past few weeks, that total is possibly slightly on the low side this time around and at least one more win may be required.
After playing three games in five days over Easter, the Reds can now enjoy five days' rest and recharge their batteries before embarking on four games in eight days in the penultimate week of the season.
The run begins with three successive home games and all are against sides in the bottom eight.
This Saturday, a Stockport County side who have slipped into the bottom four are the visitors to the Impact Arena and the Reds follow up with two more home games in midweek with third-from-bottom Barrow visiting on Tuesday and Tamworth, currently 17th, on Thursday.
The week is concluded by a trip to promotion-seeking Newport County on the Saturday.
The season ends with a home game against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, April 20th and fans should note that this game, along with all other Conference Premier Division games on the day, will kick-off at the later time of 5.15pm.Left back Connor Franklin will miss both the Stockport County and Barrow home games as he completes a three-match suspension for being sent off in a 2-0 home defeat against Lincoln City last Saturday.

Meeting
Meanwhile, the April ATFC Supporters' Association meeting this Thursday has been moved and is now being held at the King Alfred public house on High Street. The main members' meeting starts at 8pm.
