REDS SIGN FORMER PREMIER LEAGUE GOALKEEPER

REDS SIGN FORMER PREMIER LEAGUE GOALKEEPER

Thursday Aug 13, 2015

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has introduced a wealth of experience into his squad by signing former Premier League goalkeeper Matt Duke on a one-year contract.

A 6’5’’ keeper, Duke, 38, had trials with the Reds during the summer of 1999 after four years at Matlock Town.

He never signed for the Reds though and made his only appearance in the famous 1-0 pre-season victory over Manchester United Reserves.

After that he was signed up by Sheffield United on a free. Whilst with the Blades he had a loan spell at Bury before joining Burton Albion for four seasons and then on to Hull City for seven years.

Loan spells followed at Stockport, Wycombe and Derby County before he moved to Bradford City for two seasons the highlight of which was helping the club to the League Cup final.

After leaving the Bantams, Duke joined Northampton Town in 2013, being released at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.

Matt goes straight into Alfreton’s squad for the Vanarama National League North home game against Brackley Town on Saturday.
