REDS HEAD TO LUTON IN SEARCH OF FIRST LEAGUE DOUBLE
Thursday Dec 6, 2012
Alfreton Town have the chance of a first league double of the season on Saturday when they travel to fifth-placed Luton Town.
The Reds recorded a deserved 3-0 home success over the Hatters back on September 8 thanks to a brace of goals from Anthony Wilson and a Dan Bradley penalty.
But, the task of beating the same opposition in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division twice in the same season for points is an extremely difficult one, a level of difficulty which can be backed up by the fact that for all of their superb second-half-of-the-season exploits last season, Alfreton only recorded one league double in the 2011/12 campaign, and that was against a Bath City side which were relegated.
Law's side go into the Luton fixture looking for a first win in three outings in all competitions having gone out of the FA Trophy and FA Cup in successive weekends and then seen Tuesday night's scheduled home league game against Wrexham postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
However, the Reds are still in very good shape though despite the defeats.
Manager Law has been boosted by 18-year-old central defender Ross Killock extending his youth loan from Leeds United for another month and the Reds will travel to Kenilworth Road with a full strength squad as the Reds look to bounce back from their FA Cup defeat.
Last season Alfreton fell to a somewhat unfortunate single-goal defeat at Kenilworth Road on January 28 and were unlucky not to beat the Hatters in the return fixture on Easter Monday, the game in Derbyshire finishing goalless.
ATFC Supporters' Association transport to Luton departs at 9.45am this Saturday and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
Next Tuesday the Reds begin their 2012/13 Derbyshire Senior Cup campaign with a third round home tie against Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Buxton.
Kick-off at the Impact Arena is 7.45pm and admission for the tie has been reduced to £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
The Senior Cup game starts a run of three home games before Christmas. The following Tuesday, December 18, the Reds are home to Cambridge United in the league and four days later, Barrow AFC are the visitors to the Impact Arena.
Boxing Day brings a local derby at near neighbours Mansfield Town (3pm).
Alfreton supporters should note that the kick-off time for the home game against the Stags on New Year's Day is at the earlier time of 1pm.
