REDS FACE A REAL MIXED BAG OF FIXTURES
Tuesday Jul 5, 2011 to Tuesday Jul 5, 2011
ALFRETON Town face a real mixed bag of fixtures to start life in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division for the first time.
Nicky Law's side begin their adventures with a trip into the unknown when they visit Hayes & Yeading United in the season's opener on August 13.
The Middlesex-based side comfortably finished in 16th place last season but are groundsharing at Woking FC's Kingfield Stadium this season which means a trip to Surrey for the Reds.
The first home game of the campaign follows on Tuesday 16 when Southport visit the Impact Arena and this is followed on Saturday 20 by another home game, this time against Forest Green Rovers a club who have firmly established themselves in the division over the past few seasons.
August is then closed out by a tough-looking trio of games against former Football League clubs. Firstly, comes a midweek trip to Darlington on Tuesday 23 before Dean Saunders brings Wrexham to Alfreton on Saturday 27. The north Wales club will be looking to go further than last season when they reached the play-off semi-finals.
August Bank Holiday Monday brings a trip to face highly-fancied York City, now managed by former Reds boss Gary Mills.
York will also be Alfreton's opponents on Easter Monday, April 9, with the return game at the Impact Arena.
The Reds' opponents over the festive period will be Tamworth who will visit Alfreton on Boxing Day (Monday, December 26). The reverse game at The Lamb will be on Sunday, January 1, 2012.
Other games of note are the local derbies against Mansfield Town who host Alfreton on Saturday, October 22. The Reds face the Stags at home on Tuesday, February 7.
Mackin makes it five
Alfreton boss Nicky Law took his number of summer signings to five last weekend when he landed former Wrexham and York City central midfield player Levi Mackin.
Mackin, 25, has penned a one-year deal with the Reds and brings with him plenty of experience having played all his career in either League Two or Conference National divisions. He has also represented Wales at U21 level.
Alfreton Town FC invite applications for the vacant position of commercial manager following Russell Moore's decision to move to league rivals Kidderminster Harriers to take up the post of general manager. The club wish Russell well in his new venture.
