Alfreton Town have signed giant goalkeeper Jason Mooney on loan from Sky Bet League Two side York City for the remainder of the season.

Mooney signed for the Minstermen in June 2014. The tallest man to date to play for York, Mooney stands 6`9” tall which makes him amongst the tallest professional footballers in the history of the game!

He arrived on a two-year deal having turned down terms at Tranmere Rovers, his previous club and second club in England, having started playing football in Ireland for Ards and Bangor amongst others

His first taste of professional football came when he was snapped up by Wycombe Wanderers, then sent out on loan to Oxford City, where he played a full season in goal and helped them win promotion into the Conference North.

Mooney came to the professional game late, having played football on an amateur basis and at 25 is looking to make up for lost time.

Jonathan Collura, from Football Legend Partners, enthused: “Mooney will bring some consistency between the posts. His size and talents will be a much welcome addition to the team and should have an impact.
“We have been pleased to have added some depth to key positions in this transfer window.”

Jason will wear squad number 20 during his stay at the Impact Arena and will make his debut in Saturday's away game at Welling United.
