REDS APPRENTICE GAINS NVQ COLLEGE AWARD

Wednesday Jun 27, 2012

Alfreton Town Football Club are delighted to announce that employee Daniel Roughton has been named as the winner of the Derby College Sport And Land Based Apprenticeship/Work-Based Award.
His presentation was one of many given at  the Derby College's annual award-winning vocational campus Peak Awards night which were held at the Roundhouse in Derby last Thursday.
Daniel, 18, is from Alfreton and joined the Reds as  one of the first intake of full time apprentices under the club's Community Development Scheme  (CDS) set up by director John Glasby last September.
Under the guidance of the club's CDS manager Lee Albrighton, Daniel has completed his NVQ level two in sport and recreation. And he has done it in double quick time, completing it in four months instead of the scheduled six.
Daniel's studies have taken in first aid, health and safety, racial equality and diversity and disability in the game. He now moves on to level three in September when the club will be taking on five more full-time apprentices who will all be aiming to follow in his footsteps.
All of the club's apprentices are being tutored at the Somerlea Park Community Centre who the Reds are in partnership with.
Albrighton, 42, has been full time with the club for three years and is currently taking his A1 assessors badge.
Director John Glasby said: "Congratulations go to Danny and Lee for all their hard work. It is an excellent achievement considering the CDS is in it's first year of operation."
Commenting on winning the award, Daniel said: "It has been good and has been hard  work at times, but I enjoy it.
"I would like to say a big thanks to Lee and John Glasby for helping me achieve the level and the award."
