Alfreton Town Football Club is pleased to announce that their award winning Community Scheme is set to receive a huge boost in the form of sponsorship from local chocolate company Thorntons.
The donation from Britain’s much-loved chocolate maker Thorntons, who are based in Somercotes, will be used to purchase 180 season tickets from the football club, which will be distributed to schools who are participating in the Community Scheme’s various programmes. This will enable youngsters from all backgrounds to attend all the Reds league fixtures at no cost, on production of their special Thorntons season ticket.

Reds Community Development Scheme Chairman John Glasby expressed his delight at yet another major coup for the club: “What a year it has been for our growing Community Scheme. In June the club won the Conference Premier Community Club of the Year and now we have attracted a world-renowned major brand as a sponsor" he said.
“The additional attractions of this arrangement are that the football club itself will benefit in raised attendance levels, and many under 16-year-olds from the Alfreton area will be able to watch the highest level of non-league football for free, hopefully going on to become long-term Alfreton fans.
“I would especially like to thank the club’s Chief Executive, Paul Wetton, and Jonathan Hart the CEO from Thorntons for their work on finalising this deal and hope that this could be the start of a mutually beneficial arrangement for all parties.
“Thorntons is a major employer in this area and the club welcomes a company of such excellent repute as a partner” ended Glasby.
Thorntons CEO Jonathan Hart added: “We are very proud of our home in Derbyshire and we’re delighted to be supporting our local football club. Giving something back to the local community is really important to us, so when we heard about Alfreton Town’s Community Scheme and how it will be benefiting children in the area, we just had to get involved. We look forward to developing the partnership over the coming years.”
Details of how the free season tickets will be distributed within the various schools will be announced after the club have held discussions with the schools themselves following the summer holidays.
