Preview: York City v Alfreton Town

Friday Aug 10, 2018

Alfreton Town make the journey to Bootham Crescent to face York City in the National League North tomorrow afternoon, kick off is 3pm.

The Reds were dealt a set back on Tuesday night after a 3-1 defeat at Brackley which boss Billy Heath labelled as the poorest performance from his side since he joined the club.

Alfreton started the contest well but soon were on the back foot and trailed after five minutes thanks to a close range finish from Shephard Murombedzi, a mirror image of the first goal came for the second as the Brackley striker grabbed his brace to leave the Reds blown away after 15 minutes.

Brackley's attacks, coupled with a lack of concentration from the Reds led to an almost frequent chance creation for the Saints with Sam Ramsbottom producing saves out of this world to keep the score at 2-0 at the break. The Reds rallied after half time and pulled one back through opportunistic play from Richard Peniket, capitalising on a slip at the back to pull one back with a fine finish. Lee Ndlovu then completed the scoring nine minutes later to succumb the Reds to a first defeat of the season.

Another tough away trip comes next with a possible last trip to Bootham Crescent before York move to a new stadium. Billy Heath's men will no doubt look to react and put the Brackley display behind them. It was a frustrating performance in which the Reds didnt stamp their authority and quality on the contest. A strong performance is needed in another difficult away fixture tomorrow.

York have started the season with a 1-0 defeat at Chorley on the opening day, followed by a 1-0 home win over Stockport County on Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 3,218.

York City manager Martin Gray said:

"I was delighted with Tuesday's performance but it is one win and now it is back to business. "This will be a real tough test and a different type of game, Billy Heath has been successful as a manager and he has brought in some good players over the summer. We need a strong mindset and we will need to match their physical presence."
