Reds aim for five in a row with Bulls visit

Red hot Alfreton Town host Hereford in the next round of fixtures in the National League North on Saturday, aiming for a fifth straight league win; kick off at the Impact Arena is 3pm.

After last weekend's 2-1 win at bottom club Nuneaton Borough, the Reds will be looking to close the gap to the play-off positions with the current gap standing at eight points. It was another difficult encounter for Alfreton who had to navigate gail force winds and a battling Nuneaton side to claim the points.

The first half presented few chances with Dec Bacon having a few good openings, Sam Ramsbottom was alert to race out of his area well to deny Edmunds clean through. Both sides traded possession throughout the first half but there was nothing to seperate the sides at the break.

We took the lead on 67 minutes with a towering header from Luke Shiels before a mix up at the back allowed Edmunds to fire into an empty net from a tight angle. With frustration creeping in as time ticked away, Reece Styche was brought down in the box to give us a penalty with 87 minutes on the clock, Jordan Sinnott stepped up and converted to seal a huge win on the road.

With four straight league wins recorded the Reds will be eager to keep the form going against Hereford who still need the points themselves to guarantee safety from the relegation battle.

We head into Saturday's game looking for a fifth straight league win and a sixth win in a row in all competitions. The Reds are joint top of the form table with Brackley, York and Stockport.

We'll be hunting for a third home win in a row after our last two victories against Chorley (2-1) and Ashton (2-0).

Visitors Hereford sit in 16th place in the league table with 39 points from 33 games, five places and seven points behind us.

Hereford's playing record stands at: P33, W9, D12, L12.

With the Bull's midweek game at home to Brackley postponed, their last outing was a comeback win at home to Darlington last Saturday in which they came from 0-2 down to win 4-2 at Edgar Street.

Hereford are unbeaten in their last five league games (W2, D3), they last tasted defeat back in early February as the Bulls lost to Curzon at home 1-2.

The win over Darlington last weekend ended a sequence of three straight draws which were all away from home. Away form sees the visitors unbeaten in their last six away league trips, although four of these were draws.

Last Meeting:

Hereford 2-1 Alfreton Town (Saturday 1st December 2018) - The Reds made just one win in the last ten league games with December's defeat at Edgar Street which saw Symons give the Bulls a 1-0 lead which was held until the 87th minute when Craig Hobson headed home. But a penalty in stoppage time sealed the points in a deserved 2-1 win for Hereford.
