Preview: Curzon Ashton v Alfreton Town

Preview: Curzon Ashton v Alfreton Town

Tuesday Apr 3, 2018

Following Monday's postponement our trip to Curzon Ashton has now been re-arranged for this Thursday 5th April at the Tameside Stadium, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Reds 1-1 draw with Nuneaton Town on Good Friday and results on Saturday has left us 17th in the table, four points clear of the drop zone but Telford United have three games in hand. Also with Tamworth away at Stockport tonight, our league position may change depending on that result.

Alfreton produced another hard working performance last Friday and threatened well during the first half and got a deserved lead just before the break from Brendon Daniels' low finish.

The second half was again a tight encounter like the first, with both sides cancelling each other out for large periods in the game. But a long throw found Nti's head and the striker glanced the ball into the far corner to leave us still looking over our shoulders as we enter the final five games of the season starting on Thursday.

Friday's draw after a period of three games in a week left us with four points from nine after winning at Southport last Saturday, losing to Kidderminster on Tuesday and then the point picked up on Friday.

We head to Greater Manchester with just one win in the last eight league games but after this week we have only lost once in our last three. We head to Curzon unbeaten in our last three away trips (W1, D2).

The Nash put on a good performance at league leaders Salford City on Good Friday going down to a narrow 2-1 defeat. Salford took the lead in the 47th minute with a goal by Luis Maynard. It stayed that way until added on time at the end of the game when the home side doubled their advantage with a goal by Jack Redshaw, quickly followed by a reply from Joe Guest for the Nash.

This fixture is another crucial one in our season with Curzon sitting 19th in the league table, two places and two points below us. But the hosts have three games in hand as we look for vital points in the relegation battle.

Defeat to Salford on Friday for the Nash sees them head into the game with just one win in their last four league games.

Recent Tameside Stadium form is good however, with the hosts winning their last two games at home.

The Curzon Ashton team at Salford was: Mason, Baille, Guest, Hunt, Shaw, Regan, Rowney, Walker, Cummins, Dunwoody, McKenna.

Subs: Brooke, Wharton, Clark, Baker, Thornley.

We hope to repeat the result of the reverse fixture when the two sides last met at a sunny Impact Arena back in August, we ran out 4-0 winners, courtesy of goals from Adam Smith, Craig Westcarr and two stunners from Tom Platt and Brendon Daniels.

Admission to Monday's game: Adults £12, Concessions (over 65) £6, Students £6, Under 16's £3.

Matchday Programme: £2.50

The Supporters' Association have organised transport to the game which will leave the Impact Arena at 4.45 pm.
