Preview: Chorley v Alfreton Town

Preview: Chorley v Alfreton Town

Friday Apr 27, 2018

This Saturday Alfreton play their final game of the season when they visit Victory Park to take on Chorley FC for a 3pm kick off.

After two consecutive wins over Brackley Town and FC United of Manchester the Reds secured safety with that FC United win and can look forward to the season climax on Saturday after Vanarama National League North football was secured for another season.

The Reds will be looking to end the season on a high after back to back wins in the league and will be looking for a third league win in a row.

We head into the fixture off the back of missing out on lifting the Derbyshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night against Chesterfield, losing 0-1 at the Impact Arena but we will be looking to continue our impressive away form tomorrow. We are unbeaten in our last five away league games (W2, D3) as we look to make that six tomorrow and have scored 36 goals away from home this season, only Harrogate and Spennymoor have scored more on the road (40).

We currently sit 17th in the league table with 49 points and a win on Saturday could see us finish as high as 15th in the table.

Opponents Chorley are in 6th place, their 2-1 win at Brackley Town on Wednesday night has guaranteed the Magpies a play-off place on 65 points. After falling behind to an 18th minute goal from James Armson, they fought back to claim the points with goals from Marcus Carver after 26 minutes and Dale Whitham on 50 minutes.

This built on last Saturday's 4-3 win at Tamworth when Chorley again came back to win, after at one time being 3-1 down.

The Chorley team at Brackley was: Unwin, Whitham, Blakeman, Teague, Challoner, Anson, Newby, O'Keefe, Carver, Hughes, Cottrell.

Subs: Molyneux, Brewster, Caroll, Burgess, Walker, Gregory.

As mentioned Chorley have won their last two league games and have lost just once in their last eight league outings. The Magpies are unbeaten in their last three at home, winning two of them (W2, D1).

The Reds will hoping to improve on the result when the two teams last met at the Impact Arena back in October. Chorley won the game 2-0 with both goals scored by Nick Haughton (now at Salford City). The first was a wonder strike from inside his own half.

Admission to the game on Saturday is:

Adults £12, Concessions (over 60) £9, Students £7, 12-16 years old £5.

Supporters Association transport to the game leaves the Impact Arena at 9.15am, anyone interested please call Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401

All at ATFC would like to thank our supporters for their wonderful support throughout this difficult campaign which promised a great deal, however as the season entered the final ten games, the aim of staying up was a priority and this was achieved and we thank the fans for supporting the club both home and away this season. We look forward to seeing you at Chorley tomorrow and next season!!
