Preview: Blyth Spartans v Alfreton Town

Friday Jan 4, 2019

Alfreton Town make the long journey north tomorrow afternoon as we head to Blyth Spartans in the National League North, kick off at Croft Park is 3pm.

It's been a mixed set of results over the festive period with a 1-0 win at Boston on Boxing Day was followed by a 2-1 defeat to Southport before a 1-1 draw with Boston in the reverse fixture on New Years Day at the Impact.

Nathan Hotte salvaged a draw for us on New Years Day in what was a low-key affair. We trailed after just a few minutes after Walker was left free in the box to finish at Sam Ramsbottom's near post. Chances went by but mostly half chances as both sides struggled to really create dangerous openings.

A late Jordan Sinnott corner in stoppage time was glanced on by Nathan Hotte to give the Reds a deserved point on the day and at least a platform to build on again as we strive for consistency in the second portion of the season heading into Blyth tomorrow.

We head into the fixture having lost just one of our last four league games (W1, D2) and have won two of our last three away outings (Ashton and Boston). We haven't lost to Blyth since 2010, winning the last four meetings, in particular the last three league contests (two at the Impact Arena, 3-1 and 2-0 before the 1-0 win at Croft Park last season).

The Spartans currently sit in 8th place in the league table with 37 points from 24 games and are outside the play-offs on goal difference.

Their current playing record sits at: P24, W11, D4, L9

Blyth are in great form and currently have unbeaten run of 11 games in all competitions (nine in the league) a run which stretches back to November. The hosts are six games unbeaten at Croft Park in all competitions (five in the league).
