Preview: Alfreton Town v Kidderminster Harriers

Friday Aug 3, 2018

The Reds kick off the new National League North campaign at home to Kidderminster Harriers tomorrow afternoon, kick off is 3pm.

Alfreton have shown excellent progress throughout pre season and especially the last three performances against Nottingham Forest U23s, Burton Albion and Chesterfield; saw a draw and two wins. The Reds have shown excellent solidity and creativity throughout pre season and a successful preparation has greeted Billy Heath's squad.

With a perfect blend in the squad across the park, Heath's Reds will head into the new season full of optimisim, as will the fans who have seen first hand the squad develop into a solid team which is full of experience and quality ahead of the new season as we look for a strong campaign.

Last season saw a three point success on the opening day as we beat Blyth Spartans 2-0, thanks to goals from Luke Shiels and Andre Johnson.

Manager Billy Heath:

"It's the toughest start we could have asked for, our first ten games are arguably against sides looking at the top ten spots in the table. You could say we have at least 15 teams in the league who will expect to be promoted, it's a crazy division and it keeps getting tougher."

"It will be a good test, a strong test right from the start and that can be a good thing. We are confident, we don't fear anyone and if we can impose our game on them, they will have problems. Kiddy are a good side, good at what they do so we need to be alert at all times during the game."

"The first game is always frenetic, doesn't matter what you do in pre season you can never replicate the first game. Three points are crucial to start with and we will be aiming for that."

Kidderminster provide a tough test to kick off the new campaign, having also recruited strongly themselves.

Neil MacFarlane takes the hot seat at Harriers for the first time in a competitive game, since taking the reigns in the summer. Harriers have added the likes of Ashley Chambers, former Reds James Baxendale, Ed Wagner and striker Kane Richards; they too will be looking towards the summit of the table right from the off.
