Acting Alfreton Town manager Russ O'Neill took plenty of positives from the 2-0 defeat at Forest Green Rovers.

He reflected: "A much improved performance. Before the game we said we'd had a lot of emphasis on defending in the last couple of games and conceded goals, so l wanted them to get off on the front foot, and l thought to be honest we did.

"l wanted them to ensure that Forest Green knew they had been in a game, and Forest Green did know they had been in a game.

"lt's about being ruthless at both ends of the pitch, we've missed our chance to level it, then they get another corner against us and we've conceded a second goal and that's more or less game over.

"That was more like the old Alfreton Town. It's going to take time for the new lads to come in and adjust, but l think today we've been 100 per cent better

"Today was the third different way we tried to defend corners and they've got a header on it and scored, but on the positive side l told Bradley Wood and Lathaniel Rowe-Turner to put some crosses in and Wood has put seven in and Rowe-Turner four.

"l know we've lost three on the bounce, but there were positives.

"We've known about Joe lronside for a while - he's come in for Paul Clayton, who's got horrendous blisters and, in all honesty, l thought he was outstanding today - caused their back four no end of problems."
