CLUB HAVE GOT A GOOD TRACK RECORD
Alfreton Town defender Niall Heaton has been hugely impressed by the pre-season training and preparations so far and says he is enjoying himself at the Impact Arena.
The nineteen-year-old , who transferred to the Reds from Bradford City in mid-January 2015 and penned an eighteen-month contract, has shown how versatile he is in the pre-season games including scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday recently.
“To be honest, I arrived as a centre half but went to left back which gives me a bit more of a licence to push on and in pre-season I have played left side midfield which I have also enjoyed and I think I have played well there” he explained.
“Everyone knows the first few sessions are going to be hard but the training sessions have been top class, quality sessions and it is nice to get a few games under my belt in pre-season. I have kept myself in check throughout the summer and I am pleased with my fitness levels.
“Some teams I have been with before it has been just training and running. Getting your actual match fitness back is crucial for the start of the season.
“ I think the advantage of having such a young squad is that everyone is trying to prove themselves and make it as high as they can. Everyone feels they have plenty to play for.
“One of the reasons why I came here was that the club has got a good track record of pushing players on and that can sway your decision to sign for a club. I feel I have still got the potential to improve and play at a higher level. Hopefully we can achieve that as player and club together” ended Niall.
