NEWPORT COUNTY v ALFRETON TOWN PREVIEW
Friday Apr 20, 2012
Saturday, April 21st, 2012
Blue Square Bet Premier Division
Newport County v Alfreton Town
at Newport Stadium
ALFRETON Town travel to South Wales on Saturday for their final away game and penultimate fixture of the 2011/12 Blue Square Bet Premier Division campaign.
Nicky Law's side go in search of a sixth successive away victory although they will also be looking for a first three-pointer in three outings.
Newport will be aiming for a first league win in five league games, and a first victory at home in three, although they had won four out of the previous five at Newport Stadium.
Reds boss Law is still without central defender Adam Quinn who is still recovering from a knee injury, but there are no other injuries or suspensions and Law will have plenty of options in all areas of the team as the Reds look to end the season on a high note by recording a first league double of the campaign.
Newport are all but mathematically safe for another season in non league's top flight, assuming they don't lose all of their last three league games heavily and barring Hayes & Yeading United making up a 22-goal differential from their last two games.
And County also have a trip to Wembley on the horizon for an FA Trophy final against York City on May 12.
On home turf, Justin Edinburgh's side have won seven, drawn six and lost eight games, picking up 27 of their 44-point total from 43 league games so far.
They have only conceded 21 goals from those 21 home games but have also only scored 21 goals on home soil so a tight contest is in prospect.
In their last outing, Newport drew 0-0 with Darlington on Tuesday evening. The County team that night was:
Karl Darlow, Lee Baker, Gary Warren, Andrew Hughes, David Pipe, Sam Foley, Darryl Knights, Lee Minshull, Max Porter, Nathaniel Jarvis (Romone Rose), Jake Reid.
Unused substitutes: Glyn Thompson, Paul Rodgers, Elliott Buchanan and Lee Evans.
In the first contest of the season between the sides, Alfreton edged the points with a 3-2 verdict at the Impact Arena back on December 6. The Reds had to come from behind after Elliott Buchanan had put the Exiles in front after just four minutes. And after goals from on-loan man Anthony Church on 29 minutes and Jake Moult on 38, County equalised on 59 minutes through Gary Warren before Nathan Jarman's 89th minute goal gained victory for the Reds.
