Mulhern joins the Reds on Loan

Friday Dec 22, 2017

Alfreton Town can confirm the signing of striker Frank Mulhern from National League side Guiseley AFC, on a month’s loan deal.

Frank, 20, featured heavily in the Lions pre-season ahead of the 2017/18 season on trial and was rewarded a contract.

Mulhern joined Huddersfield Town’s Under-23 Development Squad in February 2016 from Leeds United.

Capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-18 and Under-19 level, Mulhern, who hails from South Elmsall, was in the Huddersfield Town Academy for nearly four years joining the Terriers at Under-9 level in August 2005 before departing for Leeds United in May 2009.

He subsequently turned professional with the Elland Road club in the summer of 2015 following a two-year scholarship; a deal he extended a year later. He played for now Vanarama National League North side Southport during a brief loan spell in September 2016.

Most recently, Mulhern spent a short loan spell at Harrogate Town last month.

Reds boss John McDermott:

“It’s a plyer that we’ve always been looking out for, he’s bright and intelligent, he reads the game well and has a great first touch.”

“Frank’s a goal scorer, loves to link the play and has great movement. He’s been a lad always with great potential and he has it in abundance. Lots of people I’ve spoken to rate him highly.”

“We want him to come and enjoy his football, he’s a fit lad, he just needs the minutes. He has excellent work rate and has blended in well with the group.”

“Training has been fantastic, the new lads have added on to what we have, training has gone up several notches. We look healthy; it’s a busy period of games we will have to call on other players. Tomorrow will be a tough game; they are just below us, they will want to be above us, they are a big club with a big squad, they should be higher than where they are.”

“We’ve looked the best we have in training so far, we are expecting a tough game and it’s important points for both sides. We are excited to get back on the pitch and to start kicking back on now.”

Alfreton Town v Boston United kicks off at 3pm tomorrow afternoon.
