Moyses: 'We battled and the lads worked hard'

Monday Feb 19, 2018

The Boss reflects on Saturday's Salford defeat and previews the trip to Harrogate

Reds boss Chris Moyses reflects back on our 3-2 defeat at home to league leaders Salford on Saturday and looks ahead to tomorrow night's fixture at Harrogate Town.

The Reds battled hard throughout on Saturday and levelled proceedings through Luke Shiels header after Danny Livesey gave the Ammies the lead. Alfreton then fell 3-1 behind before half time after Redshaw and Mafuta added goals. Marcus Marshall grabbed a late consolation in stoppage time.

Alfreton again showed plenty of heart and fight and created chances throughout the contest in what proved to be another close encounter with the Ammies.

The boss said:

"I thought we did really well in the game, I would certainly say that the referee's decisions changed the way the game went in the first half. You can argue their first goal the lad has kicked it out for a goal kick to us, the second one is offside but it's decisions like those that will influence the game and it did. But I didn't think we were quite there in the first half, the goal just before half time that we conceded was a sloppy one and we should have done better there."

"That put us 3-1 down before half time and we have a mountain to climb in the second half. The lads worked hard again and Salford didn't rip us apart and to be fair we had some good spells of football and we changed the system second half and I was pleased, we battled and the lads worked hard and stuck to the game plan."

On team improvement:

"We are still a work in progress and we are working hard to get things right and we are getting there. I was pleased with the lads and how they applied themselves. But we will get there and we are getting better, it's a project here and it is coming together slowly."

On Edward Wagner's inclusion in the squad:

"We had a look at him on trial for a month or so and he'sdone really well, centre half, tall and strong. Commands his area and comfortable with the ball. Also with Pierce Bird going back to Notts County, we needed some cover in that position. He will be in the squad on Tuesday and we will see what the squad is looking like heading into tomorrow."

On the visit to Harrogate Town tomorrow:

"I don't think we will be making any drastic changes, we have a way and we need to keep working on that way and it will keep getting better and better and we can look at the positives from the Salford game and build on those. They are another side right up there and they are a great footballing side, it will be tough at their place and we are expecting a tough game."

"We will be prepared as we always are and we will have a game plan and aim to get the points, the lads are in good spirits after the Salford game and are eager to get going again."
