MICKLEOVER ROYALS v ALFRETON TOWN PREVIEW
Monday Feb 4, 2013
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5th, 7.45pm
Alfreton Town make the short trip down the A38 on Tuesday night to face a Derbyshire Senior Cup quarter final at Mickleover Royals.
Reds manager Nicky Law is without his three latest loan signings, Louie Soares, Scott Boden and Steven Hewitt who are all ineligible for the tie, and Ross Killock is not expected to be available as he has a Development Squad game with Leeds United.
Central defender Adam Quinn will face a late check on a slight calf strain but recalls to the team are expected for Connor Franklin and Anton Brown.
However, there are no other injuries and no suspensions to contend with as the Reds go in search of a first semi-final place in the competition since the 2007/08 season which eventually resulted in a cup final defeat against Belper Town over two legs.
The hosts will be hoping to pull off one of the competition's biggest ever giant-killing shocks. Mickleover play their football in the Central Midlands Football League Premier Division (South) which is seven divisions below Alfreton's Blue Square Bet Premier Division status.
To reach the last eight of the competition, Royals pulled off an excellent 4-1 win at Glossop North End in the third round, and that was after a 3-0 win at Glapwell in the second round and a 5-2 home win after extra time (2-2 at 90 minutes) over Dronfield Town in the first round so they are obviously used to enjoying playing and beating higher-placed teams.
Royals won their latest league game 1-0 at home against Blackwell MW on Saturday and are currently sixth in the table, eight points behind the league leaders but with two games in hand.
Alfreton won through to the quarter finals of the Senior Cup by knocking out trophy holders Buxton 3-2 at the Impact Arena last Tuesday thanks chiefly to a hat-trick from Ashley Worsfold.
The Royals groundshare with Mickleover Sports FC at the Raygar Stadium, Station Road, Mickleover. For Reds supporters travelling by car, the postcode for SatNav is DE3 9FE. The contact number for the club is 01332 521167.
The prize for the victors is an away tie at Ilkeston FC in the semi-finals. The other semi sees Matlock Town face Chesterfield.
Admission for the tie is £5 for adults and £3 for under-16s. Kick-off is 7.45m and extra time and penalties will be utilised if necessary.
