Alfreton Town coasted into the semi-finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup and an away tie at Ilkeston FC after hitting Mickleover Royals for six in the quarter finals at the Raygar Stadium on Tuesday night.
After Ashley Worsfold netted his fourth senior cup goal in two games to put Alfreton ahead on eight minutes, the tone was set for a night of one-way traffic against a home side who play their football seven divisions below the Reds.
And but for a fine performance from home keeper Chris Dodsley, the final scoreline could have reached double figures.
Chances came and went and the only surprise was that it took until the 43rd minute to double the lead when Reds man-of-the-match Danny Meadows broke into the penalty area and smacked home a fierce angled drive into the roof of the net.
After the break, Paul Clayton netted twice in a minute, the first an overhead kick on 54 minutes, the second a minute later being a bundle home from close in to finish one of numerous corners the Reds won.
Nathan Arnold smashed home the fifth on 68 minutes with a terrific direct free kick strike flying into the back of the net from 25 yards before Ben Tomlinson finished the rout on 78 minutes when he cut in along the edge of the penalty area and beat Dodsley with a low shot inside his right-hand post.
The date for the semi-final at the New Manor Ground will be announced as soon as confirmed.
Alfreton Town are back in Blue Square Bet Premier Division action on Saturday when they entertain Woking at the Impact Arena. Kick-off is 3pm.
