LIFETIME AWARD FOR TOM MCROY
Thursday Sep 13, 2012
Alfreton Town honoured their longest serving stalwart and favourite son last weekend.
The Reds presented ‘Mr Alfreton Town' Tom McRoy with a Lifetime Award during the interval of the 3-0 Blue Square Bet Premier Division home victory over Luton Town.
om, 93, who still regularly attends games, is a founder member of the Reds when they reformed back in 1959 and has held practically every post within the club.
The award was presented by former Reds boss Paul Webb who was in charge of the team over 30 years ago during the 1980's.
Alfreton's stunning home win over Luton Town last Saturday saw several ‘firsts' of the season achieved.
The Reds recorded a first home win of the season at the fourth attempt and also picked up a very welcome first clean sheet of the season in the eighth game of the campaign.
The victory also gave Nicky Law's side back-to-back victories in the league for the first time this season and the goals scored were the first achieved against Luton in three games.
After Anthony Wilson's first home goal of the season set the Reds on their way after just two minutes, Dan Bradley's first goal for the club from the penalty spot on 23 minutes doubled the lead and sent the Reds in ahead at half-time for the first time at home this season.
A second goal from Wilson mid-way through the second half sealed all the points from an outstanding display by Law's young side.
The Reds will be looking to extend their unbeaten league run to three games when they travel to Forest Green Rovers this Saturday and manager Nicky Law will be looking to see how far his squad has come since last season's 4-1 defeat at the New Lawn on November 5.
Rovers - who have invested heavily in their squad in the summer - were top of the table until a 1-0 defeat at Grimsby Town last Saturday, so another tough task lies ahead.
ATFC Supporters Association transport for the Forest Green Rovers game departs at 9.15am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 01773 836251.
The next home game is on Saturday, September 22 when Kidderminster Harriers are the visitors to the Impact Arena (3pm).
