Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law  was in pensive mood after seeing his side end a run of three league defeats with a point from a 1-1 draw at ten-man AFC Telford United.

"I think the first thing you've got to do is give Telford credit. They went down to ten men and they stuck at it and they were resilient and never gave up, as we wouldn't expect them to. But, looking from our point of view we just weren't good enough in possession" he reflected.

"We've given our obligatory goal away after three minutes - we do it every week. it's hard, it's hard to come back from it - but to be fair we did get back in it - they've gone down to ten men but we've not found the spare men, we've not been brave enough in possession and, whether it be a confidence thing or just maybe not good enough, l don't know.

"We're disappointed to have not really threatened them, l think it was quite comfortable for them to contain us."

Asked why the team isn't starting games in the right way after more poor defending, Law added: "lf we look at early season we've really started with a good tempo to the game - l look back to last week (the FA Cup tie at Macclesfield) and straight from the kick-off we've given the ball away .

"Today we've got the ball and just kicked it straight out of play - given possession up. Maybe people become a little bit edgy and not being brave enough and getting on the ball.

"We spoke at half-time about finding the spare men and we changed it to a three so we could get two wide men, and we didn't find them. If l'm honest with you, l've made a substitution, we've tried to bring on a player that we think is going to open something up for us - and l was so close to just bringing him off again - subbing the sub if you want - because he just had no impact at all and that's what we were wanting.

"We were wanting our offensive players to affect the game, and l don't think our midfield three second half got on the ball and played with enough purpose - we'd just play little five yard passes to each other - they contained us far too easily, and whether that's a confidence thing l don't know" he re-iterated.
