Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law felt his side did not perform to their recent high levels during the 1-1 draw against Gateshead at the Impact Arena on Saturday.

"The way the game started off we came in at half-time disappointed that we were not comfortably in front and I think we should have been” he said

"We came out second half, started sloppy, we had a few players that have had an off-day today.

"We needed to score when we were on top. We have had some real, real good chances and we have not taken them

"And as long as that happens, the opposition are always in it. And then, exactly what we spoke about before we came out second half, don't get caught with a sucker punch and we did. A bad goal to lose, from second phase corner, we didn't stop the cross coming in, John Akinde's lost his man and we are 1-0 down

"And then it gets worse doesn't it, they grow in confidence, they played it nice and narrow, defended well and if I am honest, we are probably grateful for a point in the end.

"I don't think we were at our best today, but no excuses. The break up in the play probably hasn't helped that performance today. It's a frustrating one but we move on.

"I felt we had enough chances to win the game but in the end it was a fair result."
