LAW: WE NEED TO STOP MAKING SCHOOLBOY ERRORS
Wednesday Oct 28, 2015
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law says the only thing stopping his side from progressing at the moment is a rash of schoolboy defensive errors.
The Reds head to Telford this Saturday looking to arrest a three-game losing streak in the league and four losses in the last six outings in all competitions and Law feels his side are having the shine taken off some terrific attacking displays of late.
“It is simple, we just need to keep playing good attacking football and hope we can stop making schoolboy errors at the back” said Law.
“We bossed the recent league game at Boston and lost because we made elementary errors at the back and then scored two goals at Macclesfield in the FA Cup but couldn’t defend properly and went out 3-2.
“Early kamikaze defending and some poor defensive errors cost us that game.
“We will not progress unless we make better decisions defensively. You wouldn’t see some of the goals we have conceded of late on a park on a Sunday morning” ended Law.
The amount of cheap goals conceded is a negative reaction to some positive action at the other end of the pitch which has seen the Reds score regularly over the last few games.
And, with Telford having picked up four very good points from their last two games, a 2-0 home win over Stalybridge Celtic being followed by a 2-2 draw with Boston United, another testing game is in prospect.
Alfreton Town FC Supporters' Association transport to the game at Telford this Saturday departs at 9.30am and coach seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
Change of fixture
Meanwhile, the Reds have a change of fixture for Saturday, November 7th. Alfreton were scheduled to host league leaders AFC Fylde at the Impact Arena that day but the Lancashire club are still involved in the FA Cup which means that game has been cancelled and is awaiting a new date.
Instead, the Reds will now travel to take on Nuneaton Town on November 7th, the fixture being moved forward from April 16th, 2016.
