LAW: WE JUST NEED TO FOCUS ON FA CUP TIE
Wednesday Sep 23, 2015
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law is urging his players to focus fully on this Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round tie at fellow National League North rivals Tamworth.
The Reds had a four-game winning run in the league ended by a 1-0 defeat at Stockport County last weekend and Law feels it is important that the squad do not dwell on the loss, but rather react strongly and positively to another big challenge.
“They (the players) have not got to be too dejected, it’s just one game. There is nothing we can do about the past, only learn from it. We move on and try and build another run.
“We beat ourselves at Stockport. That’s the only thing when you have got a group of youngish ones when they are learning, some of them stopped doing what had won us four games in a row. Stockport were nowhere near the best team we have played this year.
“At times we can be our own worst enemy when we forget what makes us tick” added the Reds boss.
“It will obviously be a tough game as Tamworth have done really well this season and are unbeaten so far.
“But, we will travel in confidence. They will be confident as well after the start they have had but we have a good record at The Lamb and we just need to channel all our thoughts into progressing in the FA Cup. It is definitely a game we will be relishing” ended Law.
ATFC Supporters’ Association transport for the game at Tamworth departs at 10.15am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
Should a replay be necessary, the Reds will host Tamworth at the Impact Arena next Tuesday, September 29th with a 7.45pm kick-off. Extra time and penalties would be utilised if necessary to decide who goes forward into the third qualifying round on October 10.
