BE PREPARED FOR AN FC UNITED BACKLASH

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law is urging his side to keep their foot on the pedal as they try to keep their outside hopes of a play-off place alive.

Law’s side are unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions, seven of which have been in the league.

This Saturday they head to FC United of Manchester for a first ever game against the fans-owned club and one which will be a special occasion at their brand new Broadhurst Park ground which has seen average home attendances of 3,400 this season.

United have been consistently inconsistent all season with their last few results including a 4-0 defeat at Brackley Town and 6-1 and 4-3 home wins over Lowestoft Town and Harrogate Town respectively, the latter being particularly notable against a promotion-chasing side in which FC came from three goals behind in the first half to win.

“By the time we get to face FC United on Saturday we won’t have played for early two weeks but we have just got to get back at it” said Reds boss Law.

“It was disappointing to lose the Gresley cup game in midweek to a postponement but we have had a couple of good training sessions and I am sure we will be more than ready to go again.”

FC United lost 5-1 at AFC Telford United on Tuesday night and Law is acutely aware that his side will need to be prepared for a reaction from the Lancashire side.

“We have to make sure we are ready for any backlash. We have just got to go there and do what we normally do.

“We have just got to keep going, that’s all we can do” ended Law.

The Reds boss will have just long-term injury victim Brad McGowan unavailable for Saturday’s fixture which will see Alfreton trying to record a fourth successive away win in the league.

Travel ATFC Supporters’ Association transport to the FC United game departs at 9.45am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
