LAW: WE DIDN'T STAND UP TO THE TASK
Monday Sep 30, 2013
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law felt his side didn't stand up to the task during the 3-1 defeat at Braintree Town on Saturday.
The Reds boss reflected: "I didn't think 3-1 was a fair reflection of the game. Up until their first goal we had chances, but if you can't hit the target and can't work the keeper - that's a problem in itself.
"Their first goal we've lost the midfield runner and it's been put in from wide left - then we pushed on and looked as if we were going to threaten then another couple of chances where we failed to work the keeper and we're caught on the counter-attack.
"That's 2-0 and effectively game over and then they get a third goal and then we see a bit of a spark from the lads who think 'maybe this is going to be embarrassing' - but you can't do that at 3-0 down.
"We said at half-time you know how Braintree are going to play - they are going to keep grinding away at you and we've got to stand up to it and unfortunately we didn't.
"There was nothing between the teams up to 1-0, but the last couple of games we just seem to - not wilted - but haven't got in front when we should have and then it's a big challenge to us.
"Credit to them - they ground it out"
