LAW: WE COMMITTED SUICIDE
Sunday Oct 25, 2015
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law felt his side's recent habit of conceding poor goals cost them oh so dearly after seeing the Reds exit the Emirates FA Cup on a 3-2 defeat at Macclesfield Town.
The hosts took advantage of some lax defending from the Reds to score twice in the opening seven minutes before going three-up on 37. After that though Law's side pulled two goals back and had their higher echelon hosts on the ropes in the second half before falling just short.
"It's a difficult one to take - but we lost the game in the first 15 minutes - it's not down to Macclesfield" reflected Law.
"l've been reading all week how their manager's saying they're smashing everyone they're playing, no-one can cope with them. You've only got to look at that game and the chances we've created - not half-chances, six, seven tap-ins - they've not beat us, we've committed suicide.
"l said it a couple of weeks ago, l've said it last week - we can't defend.
"But we've scored two goals, we've had one, two, three, four, five balls that have just rolled across the goal and no-one there to put them in. We've had chances, we've created chances, we've caused problems, but our problem is our own problem - as l sa,y the first 15 minutes we lost the game through absolute kamikaze defending."
Asked if he was proud of the second half fight-back, Law added: "It's no good being proud of that when you give yourself a mountain to climb - you're 3-0 down or 3-1 down - we shouldn't get to that position. You're not going to win a game of football when you're giving goals away like that.
"They've not beaten us - we've gifted them the goals - we've caused just as many problems as they caused us" ended the Reds boss.
