LAW: WE BEAT A GOOD SIDE
Monday Sep 9, 2013
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law was a pleased man after seeing his side come through another tough test with a 3-1 home win over Woking.
He commented: "I am delighted again. It was a tough game and Woking are a decent side with some good players.
"We got off to a great start and then within seconds, your most experienced player just needs to head it and chest it down and they get the resulting penalty and we are disappointed.
"Credit to the players, we took the lead again and then they have chucked everything. It is difficult when they go four up front, and they put the big centre half up there, he is a dominant player, and they were a better team actually when he went and played up front.
"They've brought all their front players on and put Betsy up the middle and we had to defend very, very hard at the end and the lads have done that.
"From the front to the back we have defended to a man and for each other and got a deserved win."
Law also felt it was important to regain the lead before half-time.
He added: "Obviously it's important, it sends you in a different mind-set if you go in at 1-1 with the disappointment of the nature of the goal you have given away, and we didn't, we have gone in 2-1 up and it lifted our tails a bit.
"We said at half-time that the next goal is the winner. We get it and it kills it, they get it and it gives them momentum and some hope.
"They have not got off to a great start and obviously they have come here with a system to try and get something out of the game and fortunately for us and unfortunately for them it hasn't worked,.
"We beat a good side today, I think they have got some good players. They are a good side and we are pleased with the result.
"We have defended well in spells, they moved the ball about well, they are on the front foot and are chucking everything at it, but we have been disciplined in our performance, we have probably sacrificed a little bit more going forward and done a job at the end."
Law was delighted with the performances of the players he brought in after making changes to the side which lost at Forest Green.
He ended; "I made changes today. I thought Lathaniel Rowe-Turner came in and did very, very well. Danny (Meadows) was possibly a bit unlucky [to be left out], but I just felt it might have needed a little bit more experience in there and Tom Shaw has come in and obviously made that decision the right one for me.
"I felt the front one (Paul Clayton for Daniel Wishart) I am not so sure about if that one worked out if I am honest. John (Akinde) and Paul are probably very similar and there were times in the first half and probably the second half when we needed an out ball, we needed someone to come off and link play up, someone to go and stretch the game and go over the top.
"I am not so sure I got that one right but we won the game 3-1, we got it right and thankfully that's the case and we move on to the next game."
