LAW: WE ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMIES

LAW: WE ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMIES

Wednesday Mar 9, 2016

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law felt his side were once again their own worst enemies after the Reds were held to a 1-1 draw at Worcester City, the equaliser coming with the last kick of the game.

Alfreton had led since the 71st minute when Sam Jones netted his sixteenth goal of the season and looked on course for a sixth successive away win, but they were undone literally seconds from full time when Lee Hughes headed home in the fifth minute of added time.

The draw extended Alfreton's unbeaten run away from home in the league to six games but as pleasing as that run is, the shine is taken off by the fact it was yet another game in which Law’s side have dropped points after conceding late, late goals.

“It was a game we should have won comfortably but once again we have made too many wrong decisions at crucial times tonight” reflected Law.

“They scored in the 94th minute and ten seconds with the last kick of the game. We switched off for one corner and it cost us two points but that has happened too often this season, as it did against Corby, Lowestoft, Solihull, Telford and tonight.

“And when you do that, you will only achieve mediocrity and that looks like what we will now achieve this season.

“We should have killed the game off but it’s probably the timing of the goal that makes it worse.

“We move on to Saturday now and we dust ourselves down and go again” ended Law.

Next up for the Reds is a trip to relegation-fighting Hednesford Town on Saturday and Law’s side have the chance to make it a hat-trick of wins over the Staffordshire side this season.

The Reds have already recorded a 4-0 home win over the Pitmen in Vanarama National League North back on September 12, 2015, and a 4-2 win at Keys Park in an FA Cup third qualifying round tie a month later.

Transport
ATFC Supporters’ Association transport to the Hednesford game will depart at 10.15am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
The next home game for Nicky Law’s side is on Saturday, March 19th when FC United of Manchester are the visitors to the Impact Arena (3pm).
