LAW: WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS
Sunday Mar 15, 2015
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law admitted a sense of relief after seeing his side record a 1-0 victory at Dartford on a day when relegation rivals Southport and Welling United both won.
"It was always going to be a difficult game - you come down here, you're playing the occasion, the position we're in and the position Dartford are in - obviously you're playing the opposition and you're playing an horrendous pitch.
"l think trying to get into a group of lads that want to try and play a little bit of football and get them to do things early, turn the ball over and put it in certain areas - it's difficult and l think we could have done that better in the first half.
"We made a few points at half-time - with them playing one up front, two wide and one off the front man we needed to have better communication between the back four and Lenighan who was sat in the front and work that movement out, get pushed in a little bit on the wide men, enabling Johnston and Hawley to get pushed a little bit further forward, and l think we did that and we came out second half and we controlled the game.
"They were going to be a danger from set plays - good delivery and some good movement - we're just pleased to come away from home and picked up another three points, another clean sheet - that's three on the trot - we're making progress and boy did we need to.
"l looked at results at half-time, Welling are winning 2-0 at Lincoln and Southport are 2-0 up, and you're thinking you need a win to be in the position you were in before - and that's how it's been."
