LAW: WE ARE GETTING THERE

LAW: WE ARE GETTING THERE

Wednesday Sep 9, 2015

Alfreton Town FC manager Nicky Law feels his side are finally showing what they are capable of after two victories in the space of six days.

The Reds recorded a first league win of the 2015/16 campaign on  August Bank Holiday Monday when they triumphed 1-0 at home against Gainsborough Trinity and Law’s new-look side then followed up with a first away win success since March 14th when they came from behind to win 2-1 at Chorley last Saturday.

“I am really pleased for the lads. I feel we are getting somewhere near now and becoming acclimatised to the division” said Law.

“Hopefully those wins and the performances that gained them will give the players the belief to go on and get stronger and better both individually and collectively.

“Last Saturday was another good test against a strong side but I think there is plenty more to come.

“We have Andi Thanoj, Sam Smith and Dan Bradley to come back over the next few games so things will be even better then.

“Having said that, the lads have done well without them. Joe Leesley has slotted in nicely alongside Ryan Wilson and Sam Jones in midfield and they look a well-balanced trio at the minute.

“The 3-5-2 system we have deployed has worked well for us recently and it gives us solidity and a good base to work from” added Law.

"I have said all along to the lads we know what the level is about and know what is needed to win games at this level. They have now added that to their game and are now competing physically as my teams have always done and that, added to their ability, will win them more than they lose.

"We have players that can physically cope but we have to get the balance right, stand up to it first and the rest follows.

"All we needed was the goals and hopefully we have now found them. The mood is good and we have a good dressing room. The players now need to remember what got us those wins."

The Reds boss also had praise for latest signing, former Sheffield United striker Jordan Robertson, who netted what proved to be the winner in the 2-1 success at Chorley last Saturday.

“Jordan is not yet match fit, but when he is, he will be a really good signing for us and hopefully he will get a good return of goals at this level” ended Law.

Home games

Alfreton now return to home soil for the next two league games.

The Reds are at home to eleventh-placed Hednesford Town on Saturday (3pm) before Worcester City are the visitors to Derbyshire next Tuesday (7.45pm).

FA Cup draw

Next Monday all eyes will be on the Emirates FA Cup second qualifying round draw with the Reds entering the competition at this stage this season following relegation.

The second qualifying round ties take place on Saturday, September 26th and there is £4,500 prize money for the winners.
