LAW: SHOW ME THE REAL ALFRETON TOWN

LAW: SHOW ME THE REAL ALFRETON TOWN

Wednesday Apr 16, 2014

Manager Nicky Law is challenging his side to show the nation the real Alfreton Town as the Reds take on high-flying Grimsby Town in a huge game in front of the BT Sport TV cameras at the Impact Arena on Good Friday.
The last time they were live on TV, the Reds failed to produce the goods as they allowed themselves to be dominated in a 2-0 defeat at FC Halifax Town who moved into Alfreton’s recently comfortable-looking third-placed position after a 1-0 win at Grimsby Town on Tuesday evening.
The Reds now face a massive Easter double header with games against sides fighting at both ends of the Skrill Premier table. The live televised game sees the Reds host their nemesis, play-off chasing Grimsby Town on Good Friday, before going to relegation-fighting Hereford United on Easter Monday.
But, despite losing all five previous league games against Grimsby, Reds manager Nicky Law is urging his side to bounce back from a run of just two points gained from the last five league games.
He commented: “The first thing we have got to do is make sure that whatever the result, we get a performance because the last performance on TV, I am still embarrassed about now.
“That is the first thing we have got to do, perform. Usually if you do, the results follow. “It is going to be a tough game and their loss (Grimsby's) at home to Halifax (on Tuesday evening) has put a little bit more pressure on them.
"But, it is not about them, it’s about us. It’s now about winning as many games as we can from the last three of the season. “Looking at the last half-a-dozen games, we have hit a bad spell at the wrong time” Law said.
“We have gifted leads away. If we hadn’t done that in a couple of games we would still be serious contenders for a play-off place ourselves.”
Before the Easter games, Law will require a late fitness check on central defender Nick Fenton who departed the game at Woking early with a hamstring problem.
Easter Monday sees the Reds travel to take on relegation-fighting Hereford United. Kick-off at Edgar Street is 3pm.
ATFC Supporters' Association transport to Hereford departs at 9am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
