LAW: PROVE YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH

LAW: PROVE YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH

Wednesday Apr 2, 2014

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law has warned his side to cut out the mistakes that are threatening their play-off ambitions, but also insisted that there is still ‘everything to play for’.
The Reds boss was critical of his side after they failed to kill off Nuneaton Town in a 1-1 home draw, a result which threatens Alfreton’s hopes of remaining in the top five.
Law’s side have currently scored the third highest amount of goals in the Skrill Premier but only six other teams have conceded as many or more and they are all in the bottom eight of the table.
And with just six games left – four of which are at home, the long-serving Reds manager is throwing down the gauntlet to his squad to prove they are good enough to compete for a place in League Two.
“There are still 18 points to play for and there is still a long way to go but we need to have a bit more of a siege mentality amongst the players to get us to where we want to be.
“When you get there (into a play-off place) you don’t let go” said Law.
“We have still got a chance (of competing in the play-offs) but we can’t keep making the same mistakes as we have been doing of late.”
The Reds chief has been critical of individual errors which he feels have cost his side at least six points in recent home games.
He explained: “Even the best people make mistakes. But, you have just got to learn from them. You can’t continually make mistakes and expect to be successful.
“Being ruthless as a team and with each other is paramount. If you are frightened of upsetting a team-mate you are in the wrong game, you have to be ruthless with your opponents but also your team-mates. It is you against them and you have to win the battle” ended Law.
The Reds have two more home games in the space of four days starting with the visit of mid-table Welling United to the Impact Arena this Saturday.
That is followed by relegation-fighting Aldershot Town making the long trip up to Derbyshire next Tuesday.
