LAW: I AM REALLY PLEASED
Wednesday Sep 2, 2015
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law had plenty of praise for his thread-bare squad after they recorded their first Vanarama National League North victory of the season on August Bank Holiday Monday.
The Reds overcame adversity aplenty to deservedly beat a Gainsborough Trinity side who had won their last three games and were unbeaten in their last four 1-0 at the Impact Arena thanks to an 81st minute Tom Allan headed goal.
Law went into the game with one player suspended, two injured and one ill which left the Reds with just two outfield players available on the bench and others playing in unfamiliar positions.
However, there was plenty to enthuse over for the Reds boss who feels his side finally gained their just rewards after going so close in recent games.
“I am really pleased with Monday’s victory for the lads” Law reflected.
“The players have worked very hard for the win.
“There have been games over the past couple of weeks where we have dominated teams and created plenty of chances but not got our just rewards. Thankfully on Monday we did.
“Hopefully the players can now go on and build on that result” ended Law.
A first clean sheet of the season aided the victory which ended a 15-match winless run in the league for the Reds stretching back to March 14th and it was a first home win in ten outings at the Impact Arena.
Next up for Alfreton is a tough-looking away trip to ninth-placed Chorley this Saturday.
The Magpies are also in form having lost just one of their last five league games and winning three of the last four.
The Lancashire club can also boast four-figure crowds in each of their previous three home league outings so a warm welcome can be expected for the Reds!
Manager Law is hopeful of having two midfield players available again for the trip north with Andi Thanoj expected to have recovered from a minor injury and Sam Jones from illness.
Striker Sam Smith’s ankle injury is likely to keep him out for another week.
ATFC Supporters’ Association transport for the game at Chorley departs at 9.15am and seats can be booked by contacting Mark Thorpe on 07857 558401.
