LAW VENTS HIS FRUSTRATION

Wednesday Apr 20, 2016

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law was a frustrated man after seeing his side conceded yet another late equalising goal in the 1-1 draw at Stalybridge Celtic on Tuesday.

Law reflected: “We said to the players that if we approached the game as we did the Harrogate game, I felt we would not be in any danger.

“I watched Stalybridge against Fylde recently and they are typical Conference North side who try to put you under pressure.

“We knew what they were about. They get the ball forward early, not that there is anything wrong with that. They play for corners, free-kicks, throw-ins, etc. But we coped with it admirably. We were leading comfortably and could have been two or three up.

“But the longer the game went on we just invited them on. There was a little bit of panic which crept in near the very end and then three added minutes goes up. We panic and lose concentration and concede late on again.

“We have rattled off 15 points after the game that we have thrown away. Corby, Solihull, Telford, Worcester, Boston, Fylde without even trying. With those, we would have been comfortably on 72 points and in the play offs.

“If you look at champions Solihull and us, there is not a lot of difference except we can’t shut games out. Give Stalybridge credit, they kept going, but we have lost two points.

“That is pretty much the picture of our season. You can’t keep blaming the age thing. You can be 20 and know how to see a game out. You don’t have to be 29 or 36, it’s a bit of savvy.

“It has been a frustrating season. We have been better than most but successful teams win when they are at 6.5 a week, we have to be 8 or 9 and we can’t win ugly" ended Law.
