LAW SO DISAPPOINTED
Wednesday Nov 27, 2013
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law will be looking for a huge reaction from his players for this Saturday's FA Trophy first round home tie against Skrill Premier rivals Nuneaton Town at the Impact Arena.
Just days after the Reds had climbed into the play-off places after a 2-1 win at Hyde last Saturday, Law saw his side crash to a 3-0 defeat against Nuneaton in the league with the Warwickshire side taking over fifth place which the Reds had held at the start of play.
Law was critical of what he felt was a poor overall performance with the result matching his side's biggest away defeat of the season and he will be looking for his players to respond in positive fashion at fortress Impact Arena where the Reds have won all but two of their league games this season and produced goals galore.
"You can have all the ability in the world, you can have a game plan, all the ability technically, but if you haven't got the desire to go and compete and work hard and get people's heads down and you are going to let people come and come and play the ball forward unopposed, you are not going to win a game of football" Law said.
"The real disappointment for me, (is that) we have come here tonight, we have worked really hard to get into the fifth spot and then you have got to have that ruthlessness and it has been apparent that we haven't got that on enough occasions.
"If that was me and I had been playing, I would be hurting that bad that I wouldn't be able to wait until Saturday to put my performance right as an individual, not so much the result, yeah, if that comes, great.
"We said at half time let's go out and show what we are about, play with some desire and work hard and at times we got somewhere near the work rate that we are capable of second half, and when we did I thought we looked like we were going to do something, but on not enough occasions did we do that."
Admission for this Saturday's FA Trophy tie has been reduced to £15 for adults and £10 for concessions (under-16 and over-65s).
Should a replay be required, this will be staged at Nuneaton's Sperrin Brewery Stadium on Tuesday, December 3rd (7.45pm).
There is £5,000 prize money at stake for the winners as well as a place in the second round.
