LAW PRAISES PATIENCE AND DISCIPLINE
Saturday Sep 13, 2014
Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law praised his side's patience and discipline which he felt were of paramount importance in earning the first Vanarama Conference league win of the season after the 2-0 success at Southport on Saturday.
"We got off to a great start - caught them cold - took a lead and we were comfortable. They chucked everything at us second half to a point where they'd got four up, which they're going to do and it's difficult to defend - they're gambling with everything and we had to make sure we kept our shape and discipline" said Law.
"We kept our patience and ran out comfortable winners. We showed good discipline and shape during the game - we got our first win and things are looking a little bit better now - we've now got to go and build upon it.
"lt's a good goal by Joe [Ironside] - he can see that the lad's going to clear it and rather than just let him clear it he's gone to close him down and got what he deserved - you gamble, you take the chance you get the prize.
"We got off to a fantastic start, then Karl Hawley showed great composure for the second goal - great finish - and if we defend right, keep our shape and keep our discipline we were always going to win - but when you've gone eight games without a win it's difficult - things get a bit jittery and you're just one goal away from thinking here we go again, but thankfully we didn't do that today.
"We have another tough game Tuesday, but it's about us now."
